Gomechan is a major protagonist of the manga/anime series Dragon Quest: The Adventure of Dai.
He is a Golden Metal Slime who is lived at Dermline Island and become Dai's first friend before the Disciples of Avan. He later became one of Dai's companions who accompanied him throughout his journey to defeat the Dark Army. However, he is later revealed to be a wish-granting item known as the Tear of Gods who can only granting wishes to those who has pure heart like Dai.
In Japanese, he was voiced by Yumi Touma in the 1991 anime and Ai Furihata in the 2020 anime. In English, he was voiced by Michelle Molineux in the 2020 anime.
Biography[]
Prior to the events of the series, the Tear of Gods was created as a mythical living item that could grant any wishes and only for those who are pure heart can receive. When Dai is young, he went to play around the Dermline Island until he found a single drop of golden liquid and wished to have a friend, which resulted in the creation of a Golden Metal Slime and was given the name of Gomechan. Since then, Dai and Gomechan became close friends and never let go of their bond ever again.
One day, Dai met a group of fake heroes who went to Dermline Island and captured his friend Gomechan to sold him to the King of Romos for their reward until Dai went to rescue him and exposed their actions, thus given the title of Hero. The next day, Gomechan took the Crown of Championship from Dai and wear it. Three months later, Gomechan and Dai accompanied Princess Leona to the Earth Cave when she arrived at Dermline Island for a ritual to receive a blessing from the Earth God. However, they were betrayed by Varom and Gomechan went to warned Brass until they were cornered by Temjin and his subjects, but fortunately Dai managed to awakened his powers and defeated them, saving Leona as result.
When Hadlar invade the Dermline Island, Gomechan and the others met both Avan and Popp who went to save the island from being corrupted and visit Dai to train him into becoming a Hero. However, Hadlar arrives to defeat the previous Hero until his sacrifice that led to his defeat at the hands of Dai. The next day, Gomechan accompanies both Dai and Popp on their journey to defeat the Dark Army. When they're at the Romos Kingdom, they got lost in the woods with Gomechan being left out with Maam and Mina who offered him to stay at the Nayla Village until Dai and Popp returns. Two days later, they later left to continue their journey with Maam joins with them. They weren't permitted to stay in the castle due to recent monster attacks which they have no choice but to stay at the inn for the night. The next morning, Dai went to the castle to save the King of Romos from Crocodine with Gomechan and Maam joins the fight, but only for them to be defeated. Fortunately, Popp went to stand up for his friends and freeing Brass from the Dark Army's influence, allowing Dai to defeat the Beast King and they were later hailed as heroes.
The heroes went to Papnica Kingdom where they discovered the Dark Army's Undead Legion has attacked it, which was led by its Legion Commander Hyunckel. While Dai and Popp were rescued by an injured Crocodine, Gomechan stays behind with Maam where she was imprisoned at the Underground Palace. They later worked together to escape and found Soul Shell at the hidden room which they later used it to reveal the truth about Bartos' death to redeem Hyunckel, which later succeeds after Dai defeats him. Flazzard later arrives to kill them all by drowning them in lava, but only for Dai and his friends to saved by Hyunckel who sacrificed himself.
After they found a signal flares to communicate with Princess Leona, Amy and her subjects are taking Dai and his friends to Valge Tower where they met Flazzard and faced him together. Gomechan and Baduck stays behind to help Dai and his friends escaped until they met Grand Sorcerer Matoriv who saved them from Flazzard's Dancing Flame Army. After staying in with Matoriv, they later return to Valge Tower where Gomechan accompanied Dai and Baduck to destroy the Dark Flame Spire until they were attacked by both Zaboera and Mystvearn, but only for Crocodine to save them later on. Gomechan later witnessed the fight between the heroes and Flazzard until the Blizzblaze Legion Commander's death. With Flazzard's death, everything goes back to normal once Leona was freed from being frozen. The next morning, Maam announced her decision to leave to Romos Kingdom to train martial arts. Dai and Gomechan became disappointed at Leona for waiting for Popp to be rejected by Maam.
Dai and his friends went to Bengarna Kingdom where they're shopping at the large department store for items for their next journey. When Leona are bidding for Dragonsbane against Mr. Gopple, Gomechan went to stop her from continued bidding which Mr. Gopple ended up winning the weapon. After the dragons' attack on Bengarna Kingdom, Gomechan and the others accompanied Dai to Teran Kingdom where they encountered with Dragon Knight Baran, who revealed himself to be Dai's long-lost father and released his resonance to erase Dai's memories, rendering him timid and helpless as result. The next morning, Dai and his friends went to Teran Kingdom where he was under protection from Baran by getting imprisoned at the dungeon while Gomechan, Merle and Nabara are look after him until they're knocked out when Dai's Dragon Crest began to flash on his forehead. After Popp dies from trying to blow up Baran with Megante, Gomechan tried to avenge him by attacking Baran which got himself knocked away and almost got killed by Baran's forehead beam. When Leona attempt to revive the young Mage, Gomechan enters into the afterlife and convinced Popp to wake up so he could help Dai to stop Baran.
That night, Gomechan and the others went back to sleep at the wooden cottage while Popp went out for patrolling, but Zaboera and Hadlar ambushed and tried to slaughter them all until they're defeated by both Dai and Matoriv. The next morning, Dai and his friends went back to Papnica Kingdom where Gomechan is watching Dai training at a shore. Thrilled of hearing about the Romos Martial Arts Tournament and the Sword of Champions, Dai, Popp and Gomechan went to Romos Kingdom to register it, but it's too late since it ended an hour. With no other choice, they decide to watch the tournament where they're reunited with Maam who also participate the tournament and met her fellow senior pupil Chiu. However, the tournament was revealed to be a set up by Zamza to collect the battle data and send it to his father Zaboera to help him turn Hadlar into a Superior Being. Gomechan stays behind with the King of Romos to guard him and later helps Dai get the Sword of Championships to defeat Zamza, but the sword turned out to be fake.
After Dai and his friends were gathered at the Romos Castle to celebrate their victory, they went back to Papnica Kingdom and Chiu later joins the party. They went to Teran Kingdom where Popp's hometown Lankirks Village is. They later met a demon who is a blacksmith named Lon Beruk and Dai and Popp brought him the Crown of Championships (due to being made from Orichalcum) for Lon Beruk to make a sword for him. While Dai stays behind with Lon Beruk to wait for his sword to be made, Gomechan and the others went back to Papnica Kingdom to stop Mystvearn's rampage. However, Dai's sword is finally made and went back to Papnica Kingdom to stop Mystvearn and destroys the Sovereign Rock Castle. When Killvearn arrives and mocked the heroes, he and Myst lured Popp into the Field of Death to kill him, which led Dai to almost got killed by Hadlar and trapped inside an iceberg. After Popp, Crocodine and Chiu went to rescue Dai, Gomechan and Maam went to reunite with him out of relief for his safety. That night, Gomechan stays behind with Leona who stays in the castle.
After their training, Dai and his friends are setting off to Carl Kingdom to fight against the Dark Army where Gomechan spots Chiu snuck away from them to infiltrate the Field of Death and gather the information to everybody. After Chiu managed to capture one terrordactyl, he recruit it and Gomechan to his team and agreed to come with him to the Field of Death. While they're searching for an entrance to the stronghold, they were attacked by one of Hadlar's Elite Royal Guards, Fenbren, and Gomechan used his full power to save Chiu from being killed. However, the monsters were later saved by Baran before they're taken back to Carl Kingdom by Popp. Gomechan later recovered and snuck inside Maam's strongsam to go with her, Popp and Crocodine to the Field of Death and help them fight against Hadlar's Elite Royal Guards. When Vearn detonates the Black Core he implanted inside Hadlar which blows up the entire Field of Death, Gomechan and the others got to the Dark Citadel Gate where they're taken a shelter inside the Vearn Palace, where it was buried under the destroyed Field of Death, and reunited with Dai where they discovered Baran dies from containing the explosion of the Black Core. When confronting Dark King Vearn, they're almost getting annihilated by his Calamitous Wall until Hadlar saved them all.
As Gomechan, Popp and Maam were washed up to the shore, they were taken to the Forest Fort where their allies are and also first met Queen Flora of the Carl Kingdom. When Dai goes missing as he ran away, Gomechan and the others went to look out for him until the young Hero returns. At the woods, Gomechan and his fellow monsters are getting prepared to fight against the Dark Army and were given Beast King Commandos badges by their leader Chiu. The next morning, Gomechan and the others are witnessing the execution of Hyunckel and Crocodine at Loroi Valley until Dai and his friends emerged from the underground. They went to fight against the Dark Army while the Disciples of Avan are doing the ritual to cast Kaglimmer spell to Vearn Palace for them to invade. When they invade the Vearn Palace, they were attacked by Hadlar and his Elite Royal Guards and Gomechan went to protect Leona from being kidnapped by Albinass. Gomechan and Dai's friends later witnessed the fight against Dai and Hadlar until Killvearn setting up his own Kill Trap to incinerate them both until Popp joins in by casting a Crackle spell on it. After they were rescued by survived Avan, Dai and his friends got to the central palace until Avan meets up with them after defeating Killvearn.
When they got inside the Vearn Palace, Dai, Gomechan and Leona went to face Vearn at the Tower of Supremacy while Popp and the others went to fought against Mystvearn at the White Garden. When Leona was captured by the Magic Furnace, Gomechan went to help her release from it and almost got devoured as well. With no other choice, he decide to stuff Leona inside her royal robes to save her life. Leona finds out what happened and stuffed Gomechan back inside her robes. During the fight against Vearn, Vearn attempts to detonate the Black Cores out of desperation to blow up the entire Surface World until Gomechan grants Leona's wish for them to move so they could Dai and Popp fight against Vearn despite they're trapped inside Eye Jewels. Seeing the Eye Jewels are moving and attacking him, Vearn released Leona from her imprisonment and tore her dress, showing Gomechan on his hand in front of Dai and his friends and revealed him to be an item called the Tear of Gods, decide to crush him out of fear and spite despite Dai and his friends pleading him not to hurt him, but not before a single drop landed on Dai's hand.
Inside Dai's consciousness, he encounters Gomechan and heard him talk for the first time. Gomechan admitted himself to be an item created by the gods and told him he was the one who made him a living being ever since they first met each other. He told Dai that even if he disappears for ten years before regenerate, he'll be losing memories of Dai along with his journey with him and his friends as well. Before he disappears, Gomechan grants Dai's wish for everyone's hearts will be united that helps him encouraged to defeat Vearn and stopped him from destroying the Surface World.
