~ Goro Majima's most famous nickname for Kazuma Kiryu |
Goro Majima (真島 吾朗, Majima Gorō?) is the deuteragonist of Sega's Like a Dragon (Ryū ga Gotoku, formerly known as Yakuza in the west) franchise.
He is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Haruka Sawamura) of the Yakuza Saga and a major character in the Like a Dragon Saga.
Goro Majima is the former patriarch of the Majima Family and the former captain of the Shimano Family, heavily known as the "Mad Dog of Shimano", due to his wild and unpredictable nature. He's heavily considered to be one of the Tojo Clan's most legendary yakuza figures to have ever lived. He is the arch-rival of Kazuma Kiryu, as well as one of his close friends and the sworn brother of Taiga Saejima.
He eventually suffers from amnesia after being shipwrecked during a quest to find a cure for Kiryu, who was dying of cancer. He then met and befriended a young boy named Noah Rich, and in order to repay the boy for helping him, he eventually becomes a pirate and captain of the Goro Pirates, naming his ship the Goromaru after Noah's pet tiger cub, Goro.

Law in the One Piece franchise, Leorio Paradnight in Hunter x Hunter, and Kagaya Ubuyashiki in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.
Appearance[]
Majima is a lean and athletic man, which he utilizes to achieve his incredible level of speed and agility. He sports short hair that is shaved into an undercut and styled into a side part that covers his ears and a full goatee beard. His most notable feature is his missing left eye, which was gouged out in 1985, leading to Majima wearing a eye -atch with a snilversanke logo attached to it.
Attire[]
Majima's main attire includes his iconic yellow boa print snakeskin blazer and black leather pants with a black leather belt with a silver buckle attached to it. In addition, he also wore black leather gloves, black steel-tipped snakeskin dress shoes, and a gold chain around him. In Yakuza and Yakuza 2, he had a normal eye-patch, but since Yakuza 3, he's been wearing his iconic eye-patch for the rest of the franchise. On special occasions, Majima would dress in a charcoal gray suit with a red dress shirt and black tie while still wearing his black leather gloves and steel-tipped black leather shoes.
Majima's look was entirely different in Yakuza 0, as he wore a black tuxedo over a white tuxedo dress shirt with a pleated collar, black dress shoes with wings, and a black satin bow tie and cummerbund if he was working at the Grand. In addition, he had long hair that could be pulled into a low ponytail and was clean-shaven with a stubby mustache.
Tattoo[]
Majima's back is covered in tattoos of twin white snakes and a huge, intimidating white Hannya mask that extends from his neck to the back of his thighs, covering his biceps and upper chest.
Personality[]
Goro Majima is best described as an eccentric and somewhat psychotic individual with weird and wild behavior and mindset, but yet he is also a charismatic and resourceful man who has managed to earn the respect of friends and enemies alike.
Throughout the franchise, Majima has been portrayed as a wild and eccentric person who always takes pleasure in the mayhem and craziness around him. As a result, he is ferocious and dangerous whenever a fight breaks out, especially when it involves his arch-rival and friend Kiryu, whom Majima constantly seeks to challenge. But in spite of his untamed personality, Majima is surprisingly smart, resourceful, having been a successful businessman in the business he does, and, in some cases, surprisingly practical. These traits are what made him so respected and feared in the Yakuza underworld. Despite his theatrically unhinged persona and being a yakuza, he is shown to have standards to uphold, and he expresses a dislike for dishonorable men, particularly those who intentionally break rules, which showcases his honor as a yakuza.
In addition to his eccentric behavior, Majima's loyalty and devotion to those he cares about, particularly to people like Kiryu and Saejima, is another important personality trait of his. While Majima began as an obsessive and entitled man who wanted to be the one to kill Kiryu, he gradually grows more loyal to his rival, and it becomes more of a running gag, as Majima does not want Kiryu to die. When it came to Saejima, Majima did everything he could to help his sworn brother, even willing to disobey orders in an attempt to save him from being arrested, which led to his punishment. Additionally, although not as totally selfless as Kiryu, Majima was prepared to risk his life for others, as demonstrated in Yakuza 5, where he accepted Tsubasa Kurosawa's arrangement to halt Haruka's assassination and save Saejima's life.
At the end of the day, his "Mad Dog" persona is revealed to be nothing more than an act, and he is only using it to live a "crazier" life than others and to cope with the harsh realities of being a yakuza. When it comes to the Tojo Clan and the yakuza in general, Majima is also shown to be incredibly cynical and occasionally harsh. Because Majima detests serious meetings, he frequently finds a way to ostentatiously enter them and play around to defuse the situation. This is mostly likely because of the mistreatment he endured in his past.
