Nothing's gonna happen. It never does. We live in a Zoo!
~ Gracie, to her Grandmother

Gracie is the titular main protagonist of the family horror comedy animated film Night of the Zoopocalypse.

She's a wolf that lives in a zoo, Gracie is on the verge of survival and must save her home after an asteroid containing a virus came falling down from Outer Space, turning the zoo animals into zombie gummi-like creatures with the help of a wild mountain lion.

She is voiced by Gabbi Kosmidis.

Personality[]

As a teen wolf, Gracie doesn’t feel like she fits in with her family and pack. For one thing, the others have believed for years that some kind of “end of the world” event is coming so they do all kinds of weird survival drills that would make Gracie die of embarrassment if other animals saw them. But Gracie shares the pack’s “you can’t trust other animals” creed. However, her mindset will be tested by the need to co-operate with – and lead other animals to survive. She also has a soft spot for children, as she did not want to leave Poot to the Gum-beasts,

Appearance[]

Gracie is slender yet skinny female timber wolf with short eyelashes, blue fur all around her body with white fur on her muzzle, underbelly, paws and tail tip. She also has, a bushy tail, pointy ears, long legs, sharp teeth and claws. The fur on her back resembles hair. Unlike the rest of her pack, her muzzle sticks up and not down.

Biography[]

In the massive zoo and amusement park called the Colepepper Zoo, Gracie lives with her pack and her paranoid Gramma Abigale. Abigale prepares the pack and trains them for an upcoming "disaster" and she advises and forbids them to never trust the other animals in the zoo, especially when she and Abigale notice that a new animal is being transported on a transport truck into a nearby enclosure. Gracie secretly watches as the new vicious animal is put in it's enclosure by the Zookeepers, scaring one of them in the process. However, Gracie still doesn't believe her grandmother even as the zoo starts to close and every one of the humans leaves.

Later that night, a mysterious meteorite from space crashes into a satellite, as a charged up piece of it crashes into the zoo through the wolf's den, the new animal's enclosure and into the "Kuddle Korner" petting zoo, where a curious bunny eats it and gets infected with an alien virus, incubating it in a purple pod. Thanks to the damage done by the meteor, a curious Gracie, who saw the meteorite crashing through her enclosure, then decides to escape her enclosure. When she reaches the barn to investigate, she finds a strange pod in the barn, only for a blue gummi-like arm to emerge from it and chases after her in an attempt to grab her. She manages to escape, only to encounter Dan, a wild mountain lion and the new animal that she saw being released into that new enclosure. Both of them are tranquilized by a Zookeeper who puts them in cages at the vet station before leaving the zoo, while she was unaware of the situation.

Meanwhile, the pod back in the barn opens up to reveal the bunny being turned into a "Gum-beast"; a grotesque, indestructible gummi-like mutant zombie that's able to survive even when dismembered. It then proceeds to infect the other animals by biting them as they leave the barn to infect almost every animal in the zoo aside from Gracie and Dan, alongside four other animals; Xavier, a red ruffed lemur who constantly injures himself and fakes illness to be taken to the veterinary office to watch late night movies, Felix, a pompous, self-sufficient and arrogant proboscis monkey, Frida, a feisty capybara, and Ash, a sarcastic ostrich.

After almost being attacked by a rampaging infected gorilla named Fred that Felix himself deliberately left behind in order to save himself, the team splits up as Felix, Frida, Ash, and Xavier escape out the backroom and eventually make it to the gift shop to barricade themselves in, while Gracie makes a deal with Dan to give him the zoo key to let him escape back into the wild if he promises to escort her back to her pack and their enclosure. After escaping more of the Gum-beasts, including the original infected rabbit, dubbed "Bunny Zero", Gracie and Dan find the only remaining uninfected animal; a young female pygmy hippo named Poot in a ball pit that Gracie has her join them under the promise of her and Dan eating Poot if they get hungry, however, Gracie suggested this due to not wanting to leave Poot to a worse fate, due to her kind heart and motherly instincts. However, upon making it to the wolf enclosure, Gracie is horrified upon seeing that her entire pack and family have been turned into Gum-beasts. An infected Abigale attempts to attack Gracie, but she is saved by Dan, who punches Abigale in the face, much to Gracie's anger.

A despondent Gracie argues with Dan before the other animals accidentally power on the lights from the gift shop, and the duo are immediately attacked by a horde of gum-beasts. As Gracie and Dan end up decapitating the infected Fred the Gorilla in the cable car, Felix then abandons the others to get the key in order to escape, leaving the door open to inadvertently allow an infected kangaroo and her joey inside to attack them as Gracie, Dan, and Poot come face to face with Fred, who has been amalgamated with a giraffe into a twisted monster that has the key attached to its leg. During the fight, Dan is infected and starts to attack Gracie before they fall into the security office. There, in the ensuring chaos, Dan falls into a sink overflowing with soap and water and, to Gracie's surprise, appears to be cured by the soap. Wanting to save the zoo, Gracie and Dan butt heads again as Dan leaves with the key after Gracie calls him a coward.

At the gift shop, Gracie and Poot then rally Ash, Frida, and Xavier (who all survived the kangaroo attack by hiding) to cure the Gum-beasts, while Felix steals the key from Dan, only to be swarmed by infected tree frogs and rescued by Dan (though, he only did so to get the key back). Felix then tries to talk Dan into tagging along to the wild, causing Dan to realize his selfishness towards the other animals and have a change of heart as he leaves Felix with the key to save his friends, the latter attempting escape and was just about to be able to, only to be swarmed and infected by the tree frogs, turning Felix into a Gum-beast. Gracie and the others manage to lure "Bunny Zero" and the Gum-beasts to an enclosure, using an infected elephant to topple a water tower and with Dan's help, it fills the enclosure's moat to cure them all. However, the victory is short-lived as it's revealed that all the Gum-beasts have instead combined into a massive, amalgamated monster, with "Bunny Zero" herself in control, and absorbs and infects the other animals, save for Gracie and Dan.

With Dan and Gracie being the only ones left, the monster tries to escape the zoo and wreak havoc on the world before the infected Poot, having fallen off, activates a snow globe in the destroyed gift-shop and turns back to normal. Gracie then remembers the radio was on during the earlier confrontation and realizes that music is the real cure for the virus and not soap and water as she had thought before. But before they could act, Dan gets absorbed by the amalgam, leaving Gracie to force the clock tower in the middle of the zoo to 7 o'clock and initiate the song while Poot distracts the monster. Gracie succeeds just before she's attacked by the infected Felix and the released animals join in by singing as every animal, including "Bunny Zero", are all turned back to normal.

With reunions occurring and new friendships being forged, Dan then leaves the zoo and returns to the wild, but leaves the key for Gracie in case she decides to join him as she soon goes back to her pack and her new friends and they all howl as the film ends.
