~ Great Fairy |
Great Fairies are large humanoid fairies that have appeared in various Zelda titles. The Great Fairies' appearances differ vastly between games, and most of them can be found living within a Great Fairy Fountain.
Biography[]
Breath of the Wild[]
There are four Great Fairies to be found in Hyrule, each residing in a large closed orange flower that can sometimes be seen from a distance. These large flowers are also often surrounded by the familiar pink Fairies that Link can grab if he sneaks up on them quietly. Upon finding a Great Fairy, Link will find that the reclusive fairies won't be able to reveal themselves until they can gain power - which involves a monetary transaction.
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity[]
The Great Fairies, along with the Horse God Malayna, appear in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity as unlockable characters to play as in battle. They are unlocked some time after the Champions are given their Champion attire, and each Great Fairy requires some very specific mission objectives to be completed before she will appear, serving as a boss enemy that needs to be defeated to unlock the whole group. Similar to Breath of the Wild, a specific number of Rupees need to be collected as part of a mission objective before they will appear, then the Rupees donated to revive their Fairy Fountain to trigger their boss fight.
Abilities[]
The Great Fairies' main purpose is to heal Link whenever he is wounded and will also recover his magic power in games such as Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. In other titles, like The Wind Waker and Four Swords Adventures, they also bless Link with new items, powers or upgrades of his existing equipment.
In Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, they serve as a single fighter in battle, switching out with each other during combat, with each Great Fairy having her own various quotes she says when using their Special Attack or the Sheikah Slate runes against mini-boss and boss enemies. Their main means of attack are swatting at enemies with their huge hands, and some of their strong attacks are based on when they upgrade Link's equipment in Breath of the Wild.
