I must be the stupidest idiot in the whole universe. I got no ring. My partner is down. My new team is gone. Volthoom can crush me like a grape. You bet I'm scared. Good thing there's a Green Lantern power that doesn't require a ring. The ability to overcome fear. But it's like I told you...I never give up. Never quit. Never learned how.
~ Simon Baz.
Emotion--the most powerful force in the Universe. Sometimes emotions make us strong. Sometimes our emotions get out of control. Will giving birth to hope. Hope turning into compassion. Avarice erupting into fear. Love descending into rage. The Phantom Ring brings them all to your fingertips. But it has one big problem... It has no safety. No throttle. If you don't know how to use it... you become like this guy.
~ Simon Baz.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Simon Baz is a Lebanese American who was born around the early 1990s in Dearborn, Michigan to unnamed parents, and is the brother to Sira Baz. After the events of 9/11, his Muslim family found themselves falling under suspicion and ostracism, and Simon would often had to protect his sister from bullies.

Despite the hardships his family went through, Simon graduate from high and gained a degree in engineering to start a job at an automotive plant. Simon was fired from the job when the financial crisis hit, and he took up street-racing to make money. During one race, Simon's brother-in-law was severely injured and put into a coma, and Simon barely escaped from the police. Due to feeling guilt for the incident, Simon grew distant from his sister out of guilt.

Becoming a Green Lantern[]

Still desperate for money, Simon began stealing cars to re-sell them for parts, but one van he stole was filled with explosives. Simon was arrested after trying to evade from the police, and he was suspected of being a terrorist and was sent to Guantanamo Bay to be questioned. When he was nearly tortured, a Green Lantern ring burst into the room, and found Baz a suitable candidate despite his flaws. The ring transported Simon to Florida, and the ring displayed a message from its previous owners Hal Jordan and Sinestro to not go to Oa and trust anyone.
