“ | This isn't what it means to grow mentally! | „ |
~ Green Leaf is unamused at Purple Star and Red Ruby's flaccid attempts to display mental growth in "Rumors of the Library." |
Green Leaf (그린 리프, 綠㻗兒) is one of the main protagonists of Rainbow Bubblegem. Hailing from the Stingray Kingdom, Green Leaf has made it her mission to stop Black Diamond with the aid of her fairy companion Stings the stingray, teaming up with Purple Star and Red Ruby as she does so.
Green Leaf is voiced in the Korean dub by Kim Ah-Rong. In the Chinese dub, she is voiced by Li Chunyin. Marin Ifa Hasmarina voices her in the Indonesian dub.
Description[]
Physical Appearance[]
Green Leaf is a tan-skinned girl with brown eyes that have green diamonds in them and green hair in a bob cut. Her hair covers her right ear, but does not cover her left ear. She also wears yellow, rounded glasses that resemble Plum Puddin's glasses in the 1980's Strawberry Shortcake.
As with the other Mermaid Princesses, Green Leaf has three forms that she can shift between. Leaf's natural mermaid form depicts her with a green tail whose fins have a square shape reminiscent of the end of a stingray's tail, wearing a green tiara with three feathers and a yellow strapless top with green diamonds on it. While disguised as a human, she wears a yellow long-sleeved sweater and a blue skirt, with brown shoes and white socks as footwear. As a Magical Girl, she wears a green dress that displays a diamond on it, green gloves, and green boots with rainbow outlines. She is also given a green hair clip with white feathers on it. Leaf's eyes also display rainbows when she enters this form.
Personality[]
As the brainiac of the Mermaid Princesses' team, Green Leaf is known for being the most intelligent girl and the sage of the library among students. She may seem cold to those not particularly close to her, but she has a warm heart deep down. While usually calm, even Green Leaf can panic sometimes, as shown in Twins Stickers where she becomes unable to move voluntarily due to the titular item.
The Brave and Invincible Blue Sapphire shows that Leaf is not very athletic, although she is more athletic than Red Ruby and Orange Amber, as she managed to maintain a push-up position while the other two collapsed quickly. However, in the platforming gauntlet challenge, Leaf manages to at least go beneath the mesh without touching it before Blue Sapphire takes the lead. Leaf is also able to guess that Sapphire is a mermaid.
Powers and Abilities[]
As a Magical Girl, Green Leaf gains the Clover Watch, via which she can scan her enemies similarly to Slippery Toad from Star Fox, displaying information about the enemy in question on a square screen. She can also trap enemies by summoning a cage of smaller square panels around them, or use the screen that she is displaying information about the enemy as a shield.
Quotes[]
“ | I honestly don't know what's wrong with me... I'm looking into it from multiple angles. | „ |

“ | You only see what you know. | „ |

“ | (Screaming.) "What's going on with me!? I think my neurons must have been malfunctioning!" | „ |

Trivia[]
- Green Leaf is similar to Velma Dinkley from Scooby-Doo, since the two are the smartest members of their respective teams, wear glasses, have short hair, and can be haughty.
- The fact that Green Leaf plays the maracas when she, Red Ruby, Orange Amber, and Blue Sapphire pop out of the present box they used to sneak into the Starfish Kingdom King's birthday party makes sense considering Leaf was born on the 5th of May, a holiday referencing México's victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.
