Grimbeorn is a character of Tolkien's legendarium. He was the chieftain of the Beorning clan during the War of the Ring.
Biography[]
Grimbeorn was the son and heir of Beorn, a man who could shapeshift into a bear. Grimbeorn could also shapeshift into a bear, though he was not as large as his father.
Grimbeorn ruled over the Men who lived in the valleys of the Anduin between the Misty Mountains and Mirkwood. He and his people were honest and honorable, and as Gloin said: "Were it not for Beorn's people, the passage from Dale to Rivendell would have long since become impossible. They are brave men, and keep open the High Pass and the Carrock Ford. But their tolls are high, and like Beorn of old, they have no love for the Dwarves."
In T.A. 3018, Grimbeorn's people were attacked by Sauron's forces. The outcome of this attack is unknown, but Beorn's descendants continued to live in the lands of the Anduin valleys, and under them the last Orcs were driven out of the Misty Mountains.
