Groove (グルーブ Gurūbu) is one of the emergency Autobot team called the Protectobots. He transforms into a Honda Goldwing GL1200 Motorcycle and forms the right leg of Defensor. He is a wanderer at heart & action as he loves to have friends as well as moving around under the open skies. Like First Aid, he is also pacifist but with much hesitation when it comes to fight no matter who starts it. He & First Aid usually debate over the nature of war and a possible option to avoid the conflict. Unfortunately, there's little to no hope for such choice. Blades's violence onto the Decepticons is among many conflicts that Groove has hard time to understand.
History[]
Cartoon[]
Groove first appeared in the late second season episode "The Revenge of Bruticus", where he and the other Protectobots were charged by Optimus Prime with getting humans to safety after Earth was put on a collision course with the sun. He returned in the season finale "B.O.T.", where he used his liquid nitrogen gun to douse a burning building before he and the other Protectobots were summoned to help the Autobots against a Decepticon attack, forming Defensor.
He returned after the movie in "Surprise Party", attending a birthday party organised for Daniel Witwicky. He made other appearances throughout the third season, helping shoot down Astrotrain and investigate the revived Unicron in "Ghost in the Machine", helping battle Trypticon in "The Ultimate Weapon" and being among those infected by the Hate Plague in "The Return of Optimus Prime". In the concluding miniseries "The Rebirth", he assisted Ultra Magnus in piling on Galvatron, nearly taking him down until the Decepticon Headmasters and Targetmasters came to his rescue.
Comics[]
Groove first appeared in the UK-exclusive story "Second Generation" as part of a vision of the future seen by Optimus Prime and Buster Witwicky, where he and the other Protectobots were sent to protect humans at a stricken power plant and ended up forming Defensor to battle Menasor. This led into his first Marvel US appearance in Issue #24, where he accompanied Optimus Prime to stop Megatron and the Combaticons stealing the hydrothermacline. They ended up agreeing to fight in virtual reality, where Groove and Blades managed to defeat Blast Off and Vortex. However, Optimus Prime conceded defeat and was destroyed, with Groove being seen among those watching Ratchet failing to revive him in Issue #26.
Groove next appeared in Issue #32 when new Autobot leader Grimlock sent the Protectobots after the deserters Blaster and Goldbug. They ended up battling the Combaticons, with Groove fighting Blast Off, before taking Blaster prisoner after the Throttlebots had been captured by human anti-robot organisation RAAT. Groove's last Marvel US appearance was in Issue #36, where he was transported a mode-locked Blaster back to the Ark. Another attack by the Combaticons saw the Protectobots form Defensor. After Blaster had defeated Bruticus and saved a group of human children, Hot Spot let him go.
In the UK annual story "Prime Bomb", Groove was guarding Alternate Reality Inc, where Optimus Prime's personality disc was stored, with the other Protectobots, but failed to stop either the Decepticon Powermasters stealing the disc or the Combaticons raiding a military base.
Personality[]
Groove is an relaxed, and easygoing Autobot who is dedicated to helping his allies. Likewise, he is a steadfast pacifist who hates crimes, violence of any kind. This trait makes it quite difficult for him to accept his role as part of the Protectobot team. But, he can help whenever he can.
Abilities & Weapons [1][]
Primary function: Scout[]
Abilities[]
- His motorcycle mode has incredible maneuverability & can travel at 140 mph (~ 225 km/h) for up to 800 miles (~ 1287 km).
- Groove has immense intelligence with amazing skill as a scout & infiltrator. He also has significant physical endurance
- He serves as one of the limbs (mostly the right leg) for the gestalt form of the team - Defensor.
- In some occasions, he combines with his teammates (abeit Hot Spot), Heatrock & Skyfeather to form other special gestalt known as Gaia Guardian. Said combiner's components can also combine with Hot Spot to form an even stronger one known as God Guardian. He's sometimes involved in the formation of a gestalt known as Sky Reign & the gestalt form of White Gallant Convoy known as White Convoy Grand Prime which his fellow Protectobot Streetwise is also involved in.
Arsenal: Groove has above average firepower[]
- His motorcycle mode is equipped with two vaporator cannons, which are usable for his robot mode (located on the outside of his legs). The cannons can shoot concentrated streams of liquids with optional effects onto the targets: corrossive, freezing or oxidizing. They help him target at particular vulnerable areas so that he can disable intended hostiles without causing much conflict.
- In robot mode, he also wields a photon pistol that can shoot intense beams of lights with the equivalent brightness of 5,000 watt lightbulbs. Such effect can even blind some Transformers with the most heavily shielded optical sensors.
Weaknesses[]
- Due to his pacifism, Groove hesitates to fight back when he is under attack, trying to reason with the hostile most of the time. He either does that or find a non-violent solution. This puts him in severely risky circumstances on a regular basis.
- Groove also has below average strength.
