Groundskeeper Willie is a supporting character of the episode Treehouse of Horror V of The Simpsons. Much like his canon counterpart, he is voiced by Dan Castellaneta.
Biography[]
When the Simpsons are brought to a mansion by Mr. Burns, Willie was hired to handle the gardening. Having been there before them, he has seen all the incidents of fathers going insane and killing their families.
During the trimming of the hedge maze, Bart makes a huge hole in it, frustrating Willie. However, Willie decides to show the boy some mercy as he considers how Bart would be ground into haggis by his own father. When Bart asks him what Haggis is, Willie realizes Bart read his thoughts and thus has the Shinning. There, he tells Bart to use that power to summon him when he is in danger. Sure enough, Homer goes insane and attempts to kill the family. With this, Bart uses the Shinning to alert Willie, prompting the Scottish groundskeeper to take action. The moment he arrives though, he is struck from behind with an axe by home, dying before he can throw a blow.
In the next segment, Homer accidentally turns his toaster into a time machine and continues to accidentally alter the timelines, making constant attempt to fix his error. However, his bungling eventually prompts Willie to step in to help as he informs Homer he still hasn't returned. He promises to help get Homer home, but he is once again kill with an axe to the back, this time by Maggie.
In the final segment, the teachers of Springfield elementary goes cannibalistic and start devouring the students. Once the students catch on, Bart, Lisa, and Milhouse attempt to make a break for it only for the teachers to give chase. Willie once again arrives in an attempt to help only for Skinner to kill him, once again with an axe to the back. At this point Willie just concludes that he sucks at being a hero as he dies for the third time.
At the end, Willie joins the Simpsons family in their musical number of their skin turning inside out.
Trivia[]
- In contrast to most Treehouse of Horror episodes where none of the segments connect to one another, the segments of Treehouse of Horror V get connected due to the running gag of Willie getting killed with an axe being acknowledged in the third segment.
