Gumby is a young green clay humanoid figure who is the main protagonist of the clay comedy series which is named after him. He was animated using stop motion clay animation and was created by Art Clokey. He was voiced by Lou Albano.
Gumby was inspired by a suggestion from Art Clokey's wife. That he base his character on the Gingerbread man. Gumby was simply green because that was Clokey's favorite color. Gumby's legs and feet were made wide for pragmatic reasons: they ensured the clay character would stand up during picture-taking filming. The famous slanted shape of Gumby's head was based on the hair style of Clokey's younger brother Charles Farrington in an old photograph.
Gumby is a young clay boy living in a giant playroom world with his family and friends and he often gets himself into many hijinks and adventures. In the playroom there are countless books that lead to many storybook worlds where Gumby and his friends normally go to to hang out or have fun whilst seeking adventure. However fun is not always had due to Gumby's archenemies, the mischievous Blockheads who always try to ruin Gumby and his friends' fun or take anything Gumby has that they find interesting or valuable.
