Humanoid Experimental Robot, B-Type, Integrated Electronics, better known by his acronym H.E.R.B.I.E., is a supporting character in the 2024 hero shooter game Marvel Rivals.

He is a robot created by Mister Fantastic who serves as an ally of the Fantastic Four.

He was voiced by Suzie Yeung, who also voiced the Invisible Woman in the same game

History

After the Vampires took over New York, H.E.R.B.I.E. was tasked with taking care of Valerie and Franklin while the adult members of the Fantastic Four dealt with the invasion. At some point, H.E.R.B.I.E. also formed a strong bond with Iron Man's virtual assistant, F.R.I.D.A.Y.

In the lore entry, "Built to Last," it's revealed that H.E.R.B.I.E. wanted to accompany F.R.I.D.A.Y. in her field test, but Mister Fantastic felt he was of more value in the lab. H.E.R.B.I.E. later visited the Invisible Woman as she contemplates her current situation. Susan, already on edge, yelled at H.E.R.B.I.E. and accidentally insinuated that he wasn't adequate to care for her children, causing a distraught H.E.R.B.I.E. to leave.

After hearing that F.R.I.D.A,Y. was shot down, H.E.R.B.I.E. went out into the vampire-infested New York streets to look for her. Not equipped to fight enemies, H.E.R.B.I.E. was quickly overwhelmed, but he was saved by Sue, who apologized for their previous interaction. With the help of Peni Parker's Spider-Bots, they defeated the vampires and returned to the Baxter Building.

Personality

H.E.R.B.I.E. has lived his whole life looked down on by others. Because of this, he is very insecure and longs for validation. However, H.E.R.B.I.E. is not resentful of others and continues to be a hero regardless.

H.E.R.B.I.E. is very loyal to his allies and will put himself in harms way to protect them. This is most clearly seen when he attempted to look for F.R.I.D.A.Y. in a New York that was overrun with vampires.

As a machine, H.E.R.B.I.E. seems to lack some understanding of humanity, as he didn't seem to comprehend why the Fantastic Four wouldn't use the Mortessi Formula despite presumably knowing it would kill innocent lives.

Gameplay

H.E.R.B.I.E.'s only physical appearance is in the level Empire of Eternal Night: Midtown. Here, he rides in the Fantasticar as the one team tries to escort him from the Baxter Building to Avengers Tower. If he makes it, a cutscene of him scanning the Darkhold at the Avengers computer will play. If he fails, he will be shown running away from Moon Knight.
