Hanagata, the Goat Orphnoch, is the overarching protagonist in Kamen Rider 555. He is the foster father of the Ryusei School and the creator of the Rider Gears. He was the head of Smart Brain until he was ousted and gave the Rider Gears to his foster children to guard.
He was portrayed by the late Koji Naka.
History[]
Hanagata was originally the chief executive of Smart Brain, who sought to use the company to further humanity's evolution and increase the number of Orphnochs. In pursuit of this goal, Hanagata gathered a number of orphaned human children in the Ryusei School and used them as test subjects to study their evolution into Orphnochs, injecting several of them with Orphnoch DNA.
In his research, Hanagata uncovered a genetic flaw in the Orphnochs, that the rapid evolution a human underwent to transform into an Orphnoch would cause them to have a shortened lifespan. This genetic flaw could only be corrected by the being known as the Arch Orphnoch, whom the Rider Gears were originally created to guard. However, Hanagata lost sight of the Orphnochs' goal to kill or evolve humanity and so he was ousted from Smart Brain, being replaced by a series of temporary chiefs. To prevent the Rider Gears from falling into Smart Brain's hands and used by them to fulfill their genocidal agenda, Hanagata gave the Faiz Gear to his foster daughter Mari Sonoda and the Kaixa Gear to the other children of the Ryusei School. Hanagata then went into hiding.
Hanagata later briefly showed up to save Takumi Inui and Masato Kusaka from the Dragon Orphnoch. He supplied Kusaka with an upgrade to his Kaixa Gear that would allow him to perform a stronger finisher and told both of them to keep fighting for humanity before disappearing again.
As the rise of the Arch Orphnoch became imminent, Hanagata resurfaced and ousted Kyoji Murakami as chief executive of Smart Brain. Instead of returning to lead the company however, Hanagata nominated Yuji Kiba as his successor. As Hanagata's lifespan began to run out, Hanagata revealed himself as an Orphnoch to Masato and attempted to warn Mari and the other Ryusei children about the upcoming battle they would face against the Arch Orphnoch. However, he was stopped from reaching them by Masato, who did not want Mari to learn their teacher had been an Orphnoch. Hanagata managed to convince Masato not to finish him off, only for his own lifespan to reach its end as he died and dissolved, leaving behind a pile of sand.
