Biography[]
Past[]
Back in his childhood days, Hank was a normal street dog that lived at Land O' Dogs where he was harassed and bullied a lot. One day while being attacked and bullied, a high skilled samurai cat named Jimbo comes out of nowhere and starts attacking the gang, protecting Hank. After that, he wanders away but accidentally leaves his sword/blade which starts Hank's interest in becoming a samurai.
Story[]
Years later he would be arrested for some reason by Ika Chu's army and was gonna be executed. Ika Chu, hoping to offend the townspeople, decides to appoint Hank, as Kakamucho's samurai.
After an initial hostile reception, Hank relies on the assistance of Jimbo, who reluctantly agrees to train him, in order to overcome the townspeople's hostility. While training, Hank subdues Sumo, an immensely strong henchman that Ika Chu sent to drive out the townspeople quicker, with the help of Jimbo. The townspeople start to see Hank as a hero, but his newfound popularity ends up going to Hank's head, and he neglects his training, which causes a fallout between him and Jimbo. Ika Chu takes Hank to a private nightclub, in order to distract him as his thugs trash Kakamucho. Hank returns to a devastated town and, after a heated argument with Jimbo, he decides to go home, but an origami figure of himself reminds him of his samurai oath.
Jimbo, meanwhile, attempts to storm Ika Chu's palace in hopes to free Sumo, who was captured by Ika Chu's henchmen. Hank returns in order to help him out. Upon hearing about Sumo's escape, Ika Chu recruits an army of thugs to get rid of Kakamucho for good. Hank returns to Kakamucho, and explains his plan to defeat Ika Chu's army. The townspeople then build a perfect paper copy of the town and themselves as a diversion. When the raiders attack the fake town and its population of dummies, which have been booby-trapped with dynamite, Hank ignites the bombs and the townspeople attack the thugs. The Shogun arrives, who questions the ruckus. Ohga accidentally exposes Ika Chu's plan to him, causing Ika Chu to flee. Hank then chases Ika Chu to his palace, where he fights him on his giant jade toilet, which overflows and threatens to flood the town. Hank warns the Kakamucho townspeople of the incoming flood, and leads them in the digging of a channel to safely divert the water around the town.
With Kakamucho saved, the impressed Shogun decides to appoint Jimbo as the new samurai, but he gives the position to Hank. Hank, however, feels that he is not entirely ready, so he ends up giving the position to Emiko, a kitten who also desires to be a samurai. Hank and Jimbo continue to train in their own time, with their relationship mended.
Appearance[]
Hank is a beagle who has brown fur and big nose. He also wears a yellow samurai outfit.
Personality[]
Hank is a beagle who wishes to become a samurai. However, Jimbo accurately describes him as a "selfish idiot" who only wants to be a samurai for the glory and martial prowess. Despite this, Hank is a good-natured dog who doesn’t hesitate to aid others anyway he can. A good example is after Hank's victory over Sumo, the former is compassionate enough to get the latter to a doctor afterwards.
Relationships[]
Jimbo[]
When Hank first met Jimbo a long time ago when he got bullied by other dogs. Jimbo saved his life which inspired him to be a samurai. Later, when they met again, they had a bad start during training due to being a dog. Later, Hank manages to regain his resolve to become Hank's sensei.
Emiko[]
Emiko acks like a sister figure to Hank. When they first met, unlike other cats, Emiko read the scroll and realized that Hank is the new samurai and she immediately trusted him. Later they develop some close companionship when she gave Hank a bone for defeating and reforming the sumo, then she made him an origami figure. Later, Hank went to rescue Emiko when she and her friends nearly drown through the river.
Ika Chu[]
Ika Chu is the arch-nemesis of Hank. First in the beginning, Hank was Ika's prisoner until he sent him to the village to be their new samurai (which is part of his plot). Later, Ika manipulated Hank to come to his private party when he sends his ninjas to attack the village. Eventually, Hank decided to end Ika's reign of terror when they fought on a giant jade toilet and later flushed him.

Trivia[]
- Michael Cera is the first voice actor in a while to give voice to two main protagonists from the same studio in the same year, those being Hank and Armen from the upcoming Under The Boardwalk (although this was unintentional since Cera was the voice of Hank before Paramount bought the rights)
- He is another of those main characters that don't have a love interest/crush. (while he does romantically flirt with Yuki two times in the movie, their relationship isn't expanded meaning they aren't dating or in love and that flirt was likely just a joke directed at the usual romance moment cliche)
- He is a character that likes breaking the fourth wall a lot, he does it a lot throughout the movie.
- He is one of the first main characters where by the title and sypnosis you think the character's goal would be completed but in reality Hank is only a samurai two times throughout the movie, making Emiko the real samurai by the end of the film.
- He is based on Sheriff Bart from Blazing Saddles.
