Hapu is one of the two tritagonists (alongside Hau) of the 2016 3DS videogames Pokémon Sun & Pokémon Moon and its 2017 remakes Pokémon Ultra Sun & Pokémon Ultra Moon, and a supporting protagonist in Pokémon the Series: Sun and Moon. She was the granddaughter of the late island kahuna of Poni Island before becoming Kahuna herself.
In the anime, she is voiced by Brittney Lee Hamilton in the English dub and voiced by Junko Takeuchi in the Japanese dub. In Pokémon Masters, she is voiced by Ari Ozawa in the Japanese version.
Biography[]
Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon[]
The player first meets Hapu in Route 6 on Akala Island. Hapu is seen with 2 Team Skull grunts who are trying to steal a Drifloon. The player, along with Rotom, chases off the grunts while Hapu thanks and befriends them.
In Malie City, Hapu and her Mudsdale find the player and Lillie, where Mudsdale goes up to them out of nowhere, scaring Lillie. Hapu then befriends Lillie.
In Route 12 on Ula'ula Island, she meets the player again, and gives the player Mudsdale in their ride pager for them to ride Mudsdale over rocky surfaces.
On Poni Island, the player and Lillie meet Hapu at her home. They ask her where the kahuna of Poni Island, where Hapu tells them that there's no Kahuna on the island. Hapu then tells the player and Lillie to follow her. The player and Lillie meet Hapu's grandmother, who gives the player Machamp in their ride pager to push heavy boulders and cubes. The player and Lillie go into the Ruins of Hope, where they find Hapu being chosen as the new kahuna of Poni Island. Lillie asks Hapu to tell her about the legendary Pokémon, where the latter tells them to go to Exeggutor Island for the Sun/Moon flute.
The player and Lille go to Vast Poni canyon where they meet Hapu. Hapu then challenges the player in a battle. After defeating Hapu, the player and Lille go through Vast Poni Canyon. At the end of the canyon, the player goes through Vast Poni Canyon's trial and defeats Totem Pokémon Kommo-o. The player then gets to the Altar of the Sunne/Moone where they are greeted by Hapu and Lillie. Hapu congratulates the player for completing every trial in their Island Challenge, and the player and Lillie go up the stairs to the Altar to play the flutes, turning Cosmoem into Solgaleo/Lunala, where they then go to Ultra Space to battle Lusamine.
After Lusamine is defeated, Hapu tells everyone that Lusamine is okay, and volunteers to carry Lusamine with Mudsdale to get treated with care.
After the player becomes champion, they can fight Hapu again in a title defense match.
Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon[]
After Necrozma opens the Ultra Wormholes and releases the Ultra Beasts, Hapu can be seen about to battle a Xurkitree.
