Harold is a minor character of the manga and anime Attack on Titan, he was a soldier of the Survey Corps who classified as a Team Leader, he worked in the Fourth Squad, which was controlled by Squad leader Hange Zoe. He fought during the Battle of Shiganshina District to retake Wall Maria, where he and his team would be part of the newly formed Thunder Spear unit, using recently created weapons that were invented to fight and kill the Armored Titan. During the battle, he was killed by the explosion made by the Colossal Titan.
He was voiced by Yasuyuki Sano in Japanese, and by Brandon McInnis in English.
Appearance[]
Harold was a man of average height, with long and shaggy brown hair that tousled to different sides, as well as having brown eyes. He had a rather thin build, showing visible cheekbones on his face. He used to wear the wear a long-sleeved white shirt, over it he wore another shirt with a red color and shorter sleeves. He also wore greyish colored pants, and during the feast wore a green apron.
Personality[]
Harold was shown to be a very sociable and caring man, using the little bit of food budget the Survey Corps had to give his comrades meat that they would normally rarely eat. He would also happily toast to his fellow soldiers the night before they would depart to Shiganshina District, but was shocked to see how out of control his comrades reacted upon seeing the meat. It’s expected that he was very responsible as a soldier, considering that he was Team Leader and a member of the Thunder Spear Unit, showing his accountability in the Survey Corps.

Background[]
Harold was presumably one of the senior soldiers in the Survey Corps. Meaning that he partook in multiple expeditions. He would also eventually obtain the rank of Team Leader and would be put in the Fourth Squad, under the command of Hange Zoe.
Return to Shiganshina arc[]
Harold was seen being present at the meeting with the remaining high ranking Survey Corps members. This included Erwin Smith, Hange Zoe, Levi Ackerman, Klaus, Marlene, Dirk, and himself. As all others had died prior. They discuss the disclosures regarding Grisha Yeager and his presumed knowledge of the outside world, his bond with Keith Shadis and the Reiss family. Erwin then states that their main objective is also to reach Grisha Yeager’s basement, to discover what exactly he has hidden there. Erwin leaves the remaining teams in the hands of Harold, Dirk, Marlene and Klaus. As they leave, Harold suggests eating some meat for the feast before the expedition to Shiganshina District, which Dirk approves of.
Harold would later go-up to Flegel Reeves and tell him about the upcoming expedition, asking Flegel if his company could give the Survey Corps numerous portions of meat before their departure, which Flegel eventually did.
Later seen in the evening after the preparation of the meat, Harold raises his mug and cheerfully salutes to taking back Wall Maria, but is shocked to see his comrades loosing control and begin arguing on who can eat most of the meat. Harold would watch the unrest happening together with the other superior officers, Hange asks whose idea it was to give the soldiers meat, Harold apologies and tells her that he shouldn’t have spent two months of their food budget on this evening. He later watches a fight go down with Eren Yeager and Jean Kirstein, but appears unbothered by it, having already told them to behave.
A day later before dawn, Harold and the rest of the senior Survey Corps soldiers salute to the other high-ranking members from the different branches of the Military. He is later seen standing on top of the Wall in Trost District, he then notices a cheerful crowd who encourage them to for their expedition. Disappointing Levi and Hange, as the expedition was supposed to be a secret, Harold then explains that he bought the meat from the Reeves Company and would tell him about it, annoying Dirk for Flegel’s prattling. In contrast to Erwin who bravely shouts to the crowd, he then announces the beginning of the Expedition to retake Wall Maria, Harold and everyone else go from Trost District to Wall Maria, venturing towards Shiganshina on horseback with the new Thunder Spear weapons on his back.
After reaching Shiganshina, Eren Yeager reaches the outer gate and seals it with his Titan, Harold, his team and Squad Leader Hange go with Eren to the inner gate, so that can be sealed as well. But before they can accomplish the rest of their plan, the Armored and Beast Titan appear, along with a large wave of Pure Titans who transform near the outer gate inside Wall Maria. The Beast Titan launches a large boulder towards them, which directly falls into the inner gate. Intentionally trapping the horses inside Wall Maria. The Beast Titan then slams down its fist, causing numerous of the smaller Titans to begin running towards the horses. Erwin orders Marlene’s and Dirk’s squad to join squad Klaus so they can stop the smaller Titans from killing their only escape route. He also orders Squad Levi and Squad Hange, which includes Harold, to take down the Armored Titan by using the Thunder Spears.
After using Eren as bait, and the two of them fighting in the town square. Harold and the rest of the Thunder Spear units use the new weapons to blow apart the Titan’s hardened nape and later Reiner’s head. But Reiner survived and proceeds to loudly shout with his Titan, giving the signal to the Beast Titan and he proceeds to throw a barrel which contains Bertolt Hoover in it, as the barrel flies to Harold and his comrade’s location. They attempt to flee but are stopped when they notice that Bertolt isn’t transforming, and instead, gets out of the barrel and flies to Reiner using ODM Gear. After Bertolt is done checking on Reiner, he goes up to Squad Levi and Hange orders her squad to take down the Armored Titan, but it’s proven to be futile, as Reiner’s Titan is seen laying on the ground with his face upwards, meaning that his nape is now covered. Bertolt would after a short conversation with Armin proceed with his plan, he flies upwards to Reiner’s location and transform, causing a large explosion that destroys everything in its vicinity. Harold, his team and the rest of the Fourth Squad, except for Hange herself, are instantly evaporated.
War for Paradis arc[]
Harold is seen among the deceased Eldian soldiers remembered by Hange when she tries to convince Jean and Mikasa that their fallen comrades would not be so self-centered to the point of supporting Eren's choice to destroy the world. Hange presumably believes so due to the fact that the members of the old Survey Corps and the most selfless soldiers of the other branches believed in the overall good of humanity and were seen by society as weird and idealistic people.
