You're just feeding this "Dark Passenger." It's not even a passenger, it's fucking driving! And you like it. (...) No! I wanted to be like you. So bad. But my anger isn't because I'm like you. My answer is because of you! And of course I'm angry! You didn't just make the decision to abandon me once. You made that decision every single day you stayed away for ten years! (...) Biography[]
Dexter[]
After Rita becomes pregnant, Harrison is introduced in the series as a three-month-old baby whom his father helps care for. He experiences a typical suburban lifestyle with his loving mother, Rita, and caring siblings. However, while still very young, Harrison witnesses his mother's murder by the Trinity Killer in her bathtub, surrounded by her spilling blood. This traumatic experience parallels Dexter's own childhood trauma and becomes the source of his later violent urges. He seen by Dexter, who picks him up, brings him out of the crime scene and consoles him.
Throughout the original series, Harrison grows up as an innocent child, blissfully unaware of his father's true nature as a serial killer who targets other murderers. Dexter attempts to protect Harrison from the dark world of his vigilante killings while simultaneously trying to be a good father. He is deeply concerned that Harrison might develop similar psychological disorders and violent tendencies. To balance work and his late-night pursuits tracking killers, Dexter first hires a woman named Sonya as a nanny to watch over Harrison. When this arrangement doesn't work out, he transitions to Jamie Batista, Angel's younger sister, for childcare.
Dexter guides Harrison through two major, life-threatening situations in the series: upon arrival at Saint Peter's Medical Center, doctors determine that Harrison has a ruptured appendix. He undergoes immediate surgery, which is successful. Later, a crazed religious fanatic and serial killer, Travis Marshall, kidnaps Harrison and threatens to use him as a sacrifice to God, though Harrison ends up unharmed. Through these experiences, Dexter begins to understand that if there ever was a "light" in his darkness, it would be Harrison, whom he shows high protective instincts towards.
In his early years, Harrison becomes acquainted with two of Dexter's girlfriends following his mother's death. He first meets Lumen Pierce and then forms a strong bond with Hannah McKay. The three of them initially plan to move to Argentina together, but Dexter ultimately decides to fake his own death. Harrison then lives under Hannah's care until her death from cancer, after which he spends time in abusive foster care. At the age of 16, Harrison, suspecting that his father is still alive, tracks him down in Iron Lake, New York.
