Harrison Wells, later known as Timeless Wells, is a supporting protagonist in the Arrowverse, serving as one of the two overarching protagonists (alongside the Speed Force) of The Flash.
He’s an idealistic scientist that founded S.T.A.R Labs and launched the Particle Accelerator that turned Barry Allen into the Flash in the year 2020. Unfortunately, his plans were infamously hijacked by a time-traveling Eobard Thawne, who brutally killed both Harrison and his wife and stole the former's identity over a decade before the start of the series. However, following Crisis on Infinite Earths and every other Wells sacrificing themselves, the original Harrison Wells would be revived with all their memories and time-travelling powers, assisting Team Flash whenever necessary.
Biography[]
Harrison Wells was a highly intelligent scientist that fell in love with and married Tess Morgan at some point in the past. A dedicated altruist, Harrison drafted up plans to start S.T.A.R Labs, a series of several research laboratories unconnected to business interests or governments, to become the heart of the country and change how science is viewed in order to use it to improve humanity. In the original timeline, he succeeded in accomplishing his vision and changed the course of history, launching a Particle Accelerator in 2020 that ended up turning Barry Allen into the famous superhero called the Flash.
Unfortunately, after Flash's nemesis Eobard Thawne aka Reverse Flash time-travelled to the year 2000 and successfully murdered Barry's mom only to realize that he'd be stuck in the 21st century if the Flash never came to be, he decided to create the Flash and stalked Harrison Wells and his wife. Soon after, he orchestrated a car accident that killed Harrison's wife and severely injured Harrison, before pulling out Harrison and informing him of his fame in the future for his accomplishments before using a device to rip his flesh off and steal his identity, impersonating him and hijacking Harrison's plans.
Years later though, following the Crisis on Infinite Earths and every other Wells being absorbed into Nash Wells body, the original Harrison would be resurrected after Nash and all the other Wells sacrificed themselves to power the Artificial Speed Force. .01% of multiversal particles were left from the sacrifice and ended up reviving the original Harrison with the memories of the other Harrison's and time-travelling. Harrison speculating this occurred as a balancing act to the sacrifice to protect Earth Prime, the last remnant of the multiverse. He ended up immediately heading to S.T.A.R Labs to offer any help to Team Flash after informing them of what had occurred. He inspired Barry, who'd recently lost his powers due to the death of the Speed Force and the failure of the artificial one, that his heroism came from love, which was why he was chosen to be the paragon of love in the first place. This led to Barry realizing a spark of Speed Force energy was left in his wife Iris and with Harrison's help, Team Flash was able to revive the Speed Force and restore Barry's powers. Afterwards, Harrison departed to a stable time loop to relive the four years he had with his late wife until his time was up, encouraging Allegra and Cisco before leaving.
He would occassionally return to help Team Flash like protecting the timeline's integrity when Barry decided to go back in time to the creation of the other forces to stop their creation, though he backed down and realized Harrison and the rest of the team were correct about it not being the right thing to do. Lastly, he appeared in the finale of the show to convince Khione to ascend to being a goddess and the guardian of all things, allowing Caitlin to return to her body.
Personality[]
Unlike virtually all the other Wells Team Flash encountered, the original Harrison Wells was an incredibly kind, humble, and optimistic man dedicated towards using science for altruistic purposes. He was nurturing towards both Cisco and Allegra while reminding the two that they didn't need a Wells in their lives and had to follow their own paths. In fact, on behalf of all the Wells, Harrison's last words to Cisco were telling him that he taught them all just as much as they taught him, if not more, proving how deep his respectful and humble nature was. Additionally, he had a humorous side to him rare among most other Wells.
Trivia[]
- Though the multiverse was actually reborn and not destroyed following Crisis, it appears that the original Harrison is the last Wells in the multiverse so far.
