~ Haruka Sawamura's most famous quote |
Haruka Sawamura is one of the main characters in SEGA's Like a Dragon (Ryū ga Gotoku, formerly known as Yakuza in the west) franchise. She is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Goro Majima) of the Yakuza Saga and a supporting character of the Like a Dragon Saga.
Haruka Sawamura was an young innocent girl that was founded in a bar by Kazuma Kiryu. She claimed to be the niece of Yumi Sawamura, with her mother being Mizuki Sawamura, Yumi's younger sister. In reality, she was actually the daughter of Yumi herself, with her father being Kyohei Jingu, an ambitiously corrupted politician. Following the death of her mother, she became the adopted daughter of Kiryu and together, the two would live in Morning Glory Orphanage, with Kiryu taking in eight children, raising them like his own, while Haruka served as an elder sister to them.
In Yakuza 5, she became an idol working for Mirei Park of Dyna Chair. She later left the idol career so she could be with Kiryu, revealing to the world that he was family to her. This caused a huge controversy, which was aiming towards the orphanage. Filled with guilt, she left the orphanage and traveled to Onomochi to disappear. There, she met and dated Yuta Usami briefly, with the two conceiving a child after a one-night stand. The child was a boy and she named him Haruto. Following Kiryu's "death", Haruka returned to the orphanage, along with Yuta, whom she married to raise their son together there.
In Japanese, she's voiced by Rie Kugimiya, who's best known for her role as Alphonse Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist, Happy from Fairy Tail, Kagura from Gintama, Taiga Aisaka from Toradora!, Karin Kurosaki and Nemu Kurotuschi from Bleach, Juzo Suzuya from Tokyo Ghoul, and Nagi Sanzenin from Hayate the Combat Butler. In English, she was voiced by Debi Derryberrry in 2005, before getting replaced by Xanthe Xuynh.
