~ Heckyl's roll call |
Heckyl is a minor antagonist in Power Rangers Dino Charge, a major antagonist turned supporting protagonist in Power Rangers Dino Super Charge and a minor protagonist in Power Rangers Cosmic Fury.
He is a humanoid alien who initially started out as a villain and one of the most dangerous outlaws to the bounty hunter Sledge, after his ship crashed, He and his evil side Snide made a deal with him and they took control of every prisoner on the ship. But after the even more evil warlord Arcanon captures him, he remembers his past that leads him to join the rangers & eventually become one himself.
He is portrayed by Ryan Carter.
Background[]
Long ago, on his home planet, Sentai 6, Lord Arcanon attacked it to get the Dark Energem. Heckyl tried to get away from him with the Dark Energem inside a box, but some blast cause the Dark Energem to fly out. Heckyl still tried to keep it away from Fury but when Heckyl touched it, it erased his memories and created his evil counterpart, Snide. After barely escaping their homeworld's destruction, he & Snide became dangerous outlaws and went on a galaxy-wide crime spree, eventually, he was caught by Sledge and put in a specialized solitary cell.
Biography[]
Power Rangers Dino Charge[]
After numerous monsters failed to get him the energems, Heckyl is finally released by Sledge who plans to use him to get the purple energems (mainly because he looks like a human), however, he forces him to make a deal with him in making him promise that he will rule the universe alongside him.
Making his way to earth, Heckyl easily wins the trust of Kendall Morgan, but a rogue monster intervenes and attacks them, forcing him to hide and letting Fury swipe the energem, making Sledge back out on their deal and locks him up again. Fortunately, he gets another opportunity to be free when the rangers infiltrate Sledge's ship and send it crashing to earth.
Power Rangers Dino Super Charge[]
After Sledge's ship crashes down and while he was putting eggs all over the world, Heckyl & Snide temporarily take his place as leader and has the remaining outlaws work for him to destroy the Rangers and obtain the Energems.
Still using his human persona to fool the rangers, Heckyl is able to get a job that lies next to the rangers base & uses the monster Sting Rage's amnesiac attack to purposely get the rangers to help him recover his memories but learn the location of their base in the process. After Sting Rage is defeated, he declares his discovery to everyone on the ship and tomorrow, he will lead his army & storm their base & steal their energems, but Curio accidentally spills the remaining amnesiac potion in the drinks he wanted to give to everyone & causes everyone to forget it.
Another plan Heckyl uses is the monster Nightmare's ability to invade people's dreams in an attempt to tire them out and steal the energems, unfortunately, Shelby is able to discover his treachery and is forced to evacuate on his plan, now that the rangers know his evil nature.
Eventually, Heckyl gets the chance to destroy the rangers himself in a big way when Wrench builds him a new monster: a zord-like monster named Fortress designed to counterattack every zord move the rangers have. Though he gets his chance sooner that expected when Lord Arcanon, along with his henchmen Singe & Doomwing, arrive on earth to collect his prisoners, him and Snide included. Snide takes control of their body has Fortress grown giant-sized to crush them, but to his surprise, Arcanon is revealed to have dino chargers and controls the rangers zords, though Fortress is able to successfully able to beat all the megazords, even with the rangers taking back control of their zords, Heckyl finds Fortress defeated when the rangers unlock their ultimate megazord combination, and is once again locked up by Arcanon.
Heckyl is able to get Poisandra to break him out of prison, in exchange he'll tell her a secret only he and Snide knew (that secret being Sledge survived the crash), but when he sees the dark energem again, he remembers the day of his attack on the planet, which he angrily promises to get revenge on him.
After getting shackled, Snide has Arcanon to use the rangers Split Emitters to seperate himself and Heckyl with the latter being put back in a cell. Although he managed to escape his cell, he witnesses Sledge's return as he and Snide destroy Arcanon and the rest of his allies.
Sometime later, when all 10 rangers attempt to launch a sneak-attack on Sledge's ship and has the monster Badussa petrify 7 of them, Heckyl is able to save 3 of the remaining rangers, and after the 3 other ranger and Keeper meet up with him, he helps them destroy Badussa's amulet and frees their teammates, but not before warning them to get of earth fast.
The next day, he warns the Rangers that Sledge has been putting Greenzilla eggs all over the world and while Shelby tries to convince him that he's good, he at first refused to help them before going around the world to have fun. But after he saved a little girl and brought her to her mother, she kissed him and realized that Shelby was right that he isn't evil. He ultimately decided to help the Rangers defeat Sledge and his minions.
In the end after defeating Sledge once and for all, Keeper allows him to become the Keeper of the Dark Energem and sets off to stop the destruction of Sentai 6 with Zenowing by his side.
Power Rangers Cosmic Fury[]
Sometime later, Heckyl is able to morph and become a Power Panger himself, being able to handle the powers of the Spinosaurus from Dark Energem.
When he learned about the now-revived Lord Zedd and his invasion of earth in the prime universe, he joins up with Tarrick's resistence and is able to spy on the enemy's forces by getting the daughter of Zedd's second-in-command Bajillia Naire's daughter, Squillia, to fall in love with him, with this help, he learned of a way to destroy the anti-zord forcefield to allow all the other rangers to free earth.
When the Dino Fury Ranger returned to earth, Tarrick sends him the signal to shut down the forcefield, but Squillia defeats him and puts him into prison, fortunately, Zayto & Aiyon are able to bring down the forcefield and frees him along with the other rangers before restraining Squillia and being congratulated by Tarrick.
Powers & Abilities[]
- Electro-Telekinesis: Heckyl's main ability is to shoot lightning from his fingers, these beams are able to destroy anything weaker than him and can overload any other forms of electricity.
- Dark Ranger Abilities: After being to control the dark energems powers, Heckyl is able to morph into a power ranger, with all the standard ranger abilities.
Trivia[]
- His name is based on the character Dr. Jeckyll
- He has similarities of Zenowing, Mayor Adam Daniels, and Anton Mercer.
- All 4 have shared bodies with villains: Heckyl shared bodies with Snide, Mayor Adam Daniels shared bodies with Evox, Anton Mercer shared bodies with Mesogog, and Zenowing shared bodies with Doomwing.
- He is the first villain in the Power Rangers franchise to appear as a monster in one season, then become a boss in the next season, and then a Ranger in yet another season.
- According to Issue 35 of Boom Studios continuity of Power Rangers franchise, Heckyl's beginning as Dino Charge Dark Ranger was a tragic one; driven by trauma from Lord Arcanon's invasion in the past during his original timeline, Heckyl developed a morpher to harness Dark Energem behind Zenowing's back hoping that he would fare better the next time the villain came. The plan worked but, Heckyl failed to take necessary precaution to prevent the very corruption which gave rise to Snide, prompting Zenowing to purify the Energem and secure his friend's status as Dino Charge Dark Ranger in the process at the cost of his life. Since events in TV series played differently in Boom Studios continuity (more so if one takes the account of dire ramifications of Lord Drakkon's actions and Once and Always special), the prospect of circumstances revolving Heckyl becoming Dino Charge Dark Ranger much more eventful is much more likely.
