Hedwig is a supporting character in the Harry Potter franchise. She is a snowy owl and the pet of Harry Potter who served as his companion until her death in 1997 during the Second Wizarding War.

Hedwig is a female snowy owl with white feathers covered in small black spots. She has gray claws, yellow eyes with black pupils, and a small black beak.

Hedwig was given to Harry Potter by Rubeus Hagrid as a birthday present while shopping for school supplies in Diagon Alley. Upon receiving her, Harry gave Hedwig her name and became very close to her as she was the first few friends he made in eleven years.

- In real life, female snowy owls have have much more dark spots and all snowy owls bark instead of hoot. J.K. Rowling admitted her mistake, but decided to leave Hedwig's vocalisation as a hoot in the latter books for continuity.
- All of the owls that portrayed Hedwig in the films are all male, despite her being a female.
