Helen Brand is one of the two main protagonists (alongside Benoit Blanc) of the 2022 mystery film Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, the second installment in Rian Johnson‘s Knives Out film series. She is a teacher who travels to Greece to investigate the death of her twin sister, Andi Brand, and discover which of the Disruptors killed her.
She teams up with detective Benoit Blanc to do so, who advises her to disguise herself as Andi to properly infiltrate the group, although in the beginning of the film, she has shown some signs of not being her twin sister.
She was portrayed by Janelle Monáe.
History[]
Helen first came to Benoit Blanc, wanting to hire him to investigate her sister Andi's assumed suicide and bring the killer to jail. Blanc convinces her to come along to the meet up, disguised as Andi, to help snoop around, looking for evidence. Andi spends the majority of the movie eliminating suspects and collecting evidence, eventually finding Andi's special napkin, which was hidden in Miles' room. The napkin was the only evidence needed to bring down Miles but he destroyed the evidence, attempting to cover up his tracks. The napkin, being originally written in Andi's handwriting, started both her and Miles' company, until she left due to Miles wanting to release untested power crystals called Klear to the general public. Helen then starts destroying Miles' possessions and eventually manages to have the Mona Lisa painting catch on fire, leading to Miles downfall. The other members off the group decide to side with Helen after seeing what kind of person Miles really is, and Helen sits with Blanc on the beach as the police arrive.
Personality[]
Helen is shown to be intelligent and sneaky, quickly eliminating all suspects who could have killed her sister, narrowing the killer down to Miles. She is also very loyal to her sister, going to great lengths and putting her life at risk to catch her killer and shine justice on Andi.
