Biography[]

History[]

Born 1989. Helena is a special agent working for the Division of Security Operations (DSO), a supposedly secret military branch of the United States government. Following her tenure working for the DSO, she became a member of the United States Secret Services and now serves protection detail for President Adam Benford. Helena accompanied the president to his keynote speech at Ivy University in Tall Oaks, however a bioterrorist attack lead to his eventual death and Helena blames herself for what has happened, though Leon doesn't understand why.

Helena discovered that her younger sister, Deborah, was hospitalized by her physically abusive boyfriend. Overcome with anger, Helena retaliated by shooting and injuring the man. Her superior reported to Ingrid Hunnigan that Helena's candidacy for the DSO was to be no longer considered, and that she would be required to report to the United States Secret Service. These incidents impressed Derek C. Simmons, the National Security Advisor, and he began to manipulate Helena's career by having Deborah kidnapped. Willing to do anything to protect her younger sister, Helena agreed to Simmons' demands.

She was to help him bypass the president's security when he visited Ivy University in Tall Oaks to give his speech to the American people - a speech that would reveal the truth of the Raccoon City Incident and the U.S. government's involvement and support of the Umbrella Corporation's bioweapons. On the day of the speech, Helena sent out a false alarm over the radio to tell the agents protecting the president that a group had entered the campus with the intent of assassinating him. The agents left, leaving President Adam Benford vulnerable. By the time Helena and Leon got back to Benford, he had already been infected, the agents finding him in the midst of feeding.

Next began a journey through Tall Oaks under a zombie outbreak, in which Leon accompanied Helena to Tall Oaks Church, in an effort to find out the fate of her kidnapped sister. The zombies were caused by the C-Virus, which was a modified version of the t-Veronica strain combined with the G-Virus, it turned humans into zombies akin to basic T-Virus infections, but some showed unique mutations.

Beneath the Church, they discover a laboratory, with evidence of horrific human experiments. Leon and Helena discover Deborah in the crypts beneath the Church, seeming to be suffering significant pain. Helena tries to escort Deborah, but Leon pulls her away when the younger sister bursts into flames, revealing she had been infected by the C-Virus; Leon held a distraught Helena back, as Deborah was encased in a cocoon. Deborah's hand emerged from the chrysalis, reaching out to Helena who likewise reached for her sister; before their fingers touch, a crossbow bolt knocks Deborah backwards. As Helena desperately checks on Deborah, the shooter is revealed to be Ada Wong, who Leon unsurprised interacts with; Ada warns them of how dangerous Deborah had become after infection.

Deborah attacks Helena, who dodges; while Helena begs Deborah to stop, trying to appeal to her sister, the infected Harper kept attacking. Leon, and Helena, aided by Ada, are involved in a chase through mine cart tracks, with Deborah chasing, attempting to kill them. Eventually they end up in an open mausoleum; even though Deborah was shy, meek, and gentle as a human, her mutated form was aggressive, violent, and displayed bizarrely sexual traits, such as suggestive giggling and seductively stroking her body. Leon, Helena, and Ada manage to drive Deborah to a cliff's edge; Deborah fell, but Helena grabbed her hand. Helena apologised to Deborah, saying that she won't cry until she is avenged; Deborah's flailing and slimy skin weakens the grip, but Helena, acknowledging her sister is gone, deliberately lets go, causing Deborah to vanish into the abyss, presumably to her death.

Ada notes she has her own mission to follow, so parts way with Leon and Helena; the duo navigate through the catacombs, learning of the nefarious Family to which Derek C. Simmons belongs as its head. Leon and Helena manage to escape Tall Oaks as it is declared its outbreak can only be contained like Raccoon City, with a nuclear bomb; although, also like Raccoon City, the nuking was to destroy evidence of the conspiracy undertook by Simmons.

Through a video call with Ingrid Hunnigan, Helena reveals Simmons' part in killing the President and unleashing the C-Virus; however, Simmons is present at headquarters, and denies the accusations, instead levying the guilt at Helena. Due to lacking evidence, Leon and Helena go underground; Hunnigan, due to her intelligence, and history with working with Leon, plus suspecting Simmons due to his involvement in nuking two US cities, assists Leon and Helena, providing intel, supplies, and transport.

Following leads, Leon and Helena fly to Lanshiang in China; the pilot is mutated by the C-Virus, forcing them to fight. They defeat the monster, but their plane crashes; fortunately, they survive. They cross paths with Sherry Birkin - the girl who was once rescued by Leon and Claire in Raccoon City - now working as an agent for Division of Security Operations. Sherry was accompanied and aided by a young man in her protection, Jake Muller (unknown to Leon, the secret son of deceased terrorist, Albert Wesker); Leon and Helena reveal the Family conspiracy and Simmons' part in it. Sherry is shocked as Simmons is her superior. Before further discussion, the two duos are forced to fight a relentless Tyrant called Ustanak, swapping partners back and forth, but managing to momentarily defeat it. As wreckage from the plane collapses, they are split up into their original duos; Leon warns Sherry to be careful, and jokingly threatens Jake if she gets hurt.

Leon and Helena navigate through a new C-Virus outbreak in Lanshiang. Eventually, Leon and Helena break into an undergoing confrontation between Simmons and his men, against what appears to be Ada Wong (unknown to Leon, actually Carla Radames, a scientist who created the C-Virus, forced to take it, which transformed her into a doppelgänger of the real Ada Wong; she was also brainwashed into thinking she was Ada, but realised the truth, which drove her insane, making her create the terrorist group, Neo-Umbrella, to get revenge against Simmons).

The stand-off is interrupted by Sherry and Jake; Sherry confronts Simmons with the information she learned about his guilt. Simmons angrily demeans her for shouting out the accusation, but admits he was the cause; the groups spitefully argue against Simmons, who justifies his actions of killing the President and destroying Tall Oaks as it "saved" America, since the President's speech would reveal the US government's culpability in Umbrella's illegal virus experimentation, which he believed would undermine US supremacy on the global stage.

Ada/Carla shoots Simmons with a syringe with an upgraded C-Virus; the chaos splits up the groups, with Neo-Umbrella capturing Sherry and Jake, while Leon and Helena are forced to chase Simmons, who caught a train. Simmons is on a phone call on the train roof, but Leon and Helena corner him, explaining that they will force him to pay for his crimes. Simmons, full of rage, condemns "that woman," referencing Carla, however, due to his remaking of her and his own mental instability, he may genuinely believe Ada is the one who infected him. As it is an upgraded strain, the cocoon state is no longer needed, so Simmons immediately shifts into a giant monster.

Leon and Helena engage the monster Simmons in a brutal fight; he maintains cognitive awareness and control, thus is even more dangerous. Simmons shifts between a mutated centaur form and a malformed insect shape. A helicopter sent by the Family follows to retrieve Simmons, however, they realise Simmons is too mutated to be useful anymore, so they abandon him, which Simmons cries aloud about. Leon and Helena weaken Simmons enough that he falls under the train, every carriage running over him and seeming to kill him.

With Simmons exposed, Hunnigan is able to openly aid Leon and Helena, giving them assistance from US assets. Leon receives a call from Chris Redfield who, upon learning he is in Lanshiang, yells that he escape; however, to their horror, a missile flies overhead, it detonates in the middle of the city, unleashing a cloud of the C-Virus, instantly infecting everyone caught in it. Leon and Helena are escorted in an armored personal carrier by US soldiers sent to help; soldiers sacrifice themselves to allow them to advance. They avoid the cloud, but thousands, possibly hundreds of thousands, of civilians are infected, creating more zombies as they feed on others who escape.

Leon and Helena help each other cross a massive horde blocking the roads; they are saved by a helicopter, but the personnel are infecting, forcing them to leap to safety when possible. They enter a huge courtyard, but one free from zombies. A bloodied, humanoid Simmons reappears. Leon notes he doesn't know when to give up; again, Simmons rages about Ada. Leon and Helena board an APC driven by a surviving soldier.; they use the machine gun turret to fire at Simmons, after he shifts into a gigantic form akin to a Tyrannosaurus Rex. Monster Simmons flips the vehicle, which explodes and kills the driver; however, Leon and Helena fire rockets at Simmons, which seems to finally kill him.

Leon and Helena ascend the tower; Helena asks about his relationship with Ada, which he answers truthfully is complicated. Due to Helena's own loss, she encourages Leon to reconnect before it is too late, which Leon considers but notes he might not know how. Through the elevator window, they see Ada grappling up the skyscraper, reaching a covered walkway that joins the towers; once again, monster-form Simmons ascends, causing damage that makes the elevator break and collapse open. Leon and Helena climb the elevator cable, while Ada dodges and battles Simmons, who rants about her "disloyalty."

When Ada seems knocked out, Leon jumps down to help her, while Helena provides covering fire from above. Leon appeals to Ada, noting that she ha to survive as she is too resilient to die; Ada wakes up, thanking Leon, but cheekily noting she would have been fine. Ada impales a bolt through Simmons' torso, then pulls him off the walkway; she grapples to safety, while he falls into an inferno.

Ada parts ways with Leon again, so he and Helena resume their ascent of the skyscraper, trying to reach a helicopter that might be available. Against all odds, they discover Simmons on the roof; Simmons' new mutation is causing tendrils to impale passing zombies, dragging them to him, seeming to absorb their biomass.

Before Leon and Helena can reach the helicopter, Simmons cuts them off, after absorbing so much material is now a titanic fly. The duo cooperate to shoot everything they've got at the monster fly, chipping away necrotic flesh; they spike a zombie with a lightning rod, so when the monster fly shoots a tendril to repair itself with zombie flesh, the rod is jammed into its head, which attracts a lightning bolt that incinerates and destroys its head. Leon and Helena shoot more until the monster fly loses its grip, falling from the roof. With its regeneration burnt away, chunks fall off into debris on the plummet down; eventually, only Simmons mutated but regular-sized humanoid body is left. Simmons screams, his fall stopped as his back is impaled by an obelisk within the earlier courtyard; his blood flows down the spire, with the courtyard pattern ironically making the symbol of Umbrella, the organisation he had helped unleash bioweapons upon the world. Simmons twitches, seeming to recover, but his movements ceased, showing he had finally died.

Helena spitefully condemns Simmons; with what little comfort it gives her, she considers Deborah avenged. She and Leon use a helicopter to escape the infected city.

After the threat of Neo-Umbrella had been defeated, Helena is in a cemetery, by the grave of her sister, Deborah. Leon meets her; Helena notes that despite being blackmailed and threatened into it, she was to blame for the Tall Oaks incident. However, Leon counters that it was Simmons to blame, not her, and that to honour the dead, she has to keep living and helping save the world from more monsters like Simmons. Helena is slightly surprised, but accepts the responsibility; she bids farewell to her sister again, noting that she will never forget her and will make her proud.

Other Appearances[]

Helena is also a playable character in "The Mercenaries" mode. She has three different costumes: her default business attire, her outfit while in China, and a Raccoon Police Department policewoman uniform.

Abilities[]

Throughout the events in the game, Helena shows an extremely high degree of marksmanship, being able to hit a precise target in an instant, such as shooting a zombie in the head while in the act of turning, as well as being able to fire upon the mutated Simmons, making the same shot without being fazed by the distraction of a potentially dangerous piece of debris flying at her. Helena shows being capable of handling even exotic firearms, namely unique her Hydra shotgun, being able to fire three shots in rapid succession and reloading immediately afterwards, all while only consuming one stamina bar. She is athletic and capable, Harper is also a highly trained combatant and martial artist. On several occasions, she demonstrated feats of body strength that match Leon, such as being able to hold a door partially shut with two zombies trying to push their way through, as well as being able to easily climb a vertical cable wire hand-over-hand. It is implied that Helena is also familiar with piloting helicopters, as shown when Leon and herself finally defeat Simmons.

Trivia[]

  • She wanted to live in Chicago because of its architecture style. She eventually moved there later on after the outbreak.
