No one touches me anymore unless I want them to.
~ Trish Walker
Not everyone has an abusive mother and a superpowered sister. I just want to help people who can't help themselves.
~ Trish to Karl Malus in season 2.
I have spent the past year honing my skills, evolving into the best version of myself. I'm unstoppable.
~ Trish to Jessica in season three.

Hellcat (real name Patricia "Trish" Walker) is the deuteragonist from the Netflix TV series Jessica Jones, a minor character in Luke Cage, and a supporting character in The Defenders, which are part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Trish Walker is a former child star and Teen Choice Award Winner from the television series It's Patsy and is the best friend/adoptive sister of Jessica Jones. Unknown events have made Walker paranoid enough to turn her house into a fortress complete with a safe room, and 24 hour surveillance, and pick up Krav Maga.

She was portrayed by Rachel Taylor, who also portrayed Maggie Madsen in Transformers. Catherine Blades and Audrey Grace Marshall portrayed the character younger.

History[]

Jessica Jones[]

Flashbacks show that Trish is a former child actress, whose abusive mother adopted a newly orphaned Jessica in order to get free publicity. Although their relationship has a rocky start, they eventually become closer after Jessica uses her powers to force Dorothy to leave them alone. Unlike Jessica, Trish is excited that her friend has developed superpowers, and constantly encourages her to take up superheroics, to the point that she even creates her a costume.

Currently, Trish is a radio talk show host and has her own show, "Trish Talk". During the series she serves as Jessica's confidant and assists her in her search after Kilgrave. Unfortunately, her actions cause her to be targeted by him, and he brainwashes a police officer, Will Simpson, to kill her. Luckily, his plan is foiled by Jessica. The attack leaves her in shock, to the point where she almost shoots Will when he comes back to apologize for his actions while he was under Kilgrave's control. Luckily, she does not, and they begin a romantic relationship. Their relationship comes under strain, however, when their conflicting methods about how to deal with Kilgrave causes him to start sabotaging Jessica's actions, and deteriorate even further when Kilgrave attempts to blow him up. An injured Will, in desperation, contacts his old spec-ops unit in order to procure special pills that help him heal. The pills have an unfortunate side effect of causing him to become violent and irrational, to the point where he locks up Trish and tries to murder Jessica. Trish manages to escape, and after consuming some of Simpson's pills, helps an injured Jessica knock him out (an attempt that nearly costs Trish her life).

Trish recovers and assists Jessica with capturing Kilgrave by acting as a decoy to surprise him. Despite a few setbacks, their plan succeeds, and they manage to stop Kilgrave once and for all.

Powers & Abilities[]

Powers[]

Artificially Enhanced Physiology: Wanting powers like Jessica Jones, Walker persuaded Karl Malus to help her gain similar abilities. Once she discovered her new powers, Walker practiced at a park and gym to see how far she could push her limits.

  • Enhanced Reflexes: After undergoing a procedure performed by Malus, Walker gained reflexes that are quicker than average. For instance, when she was accidentally bumped into by a resident at Jessica Jones' Apartment Building, she managed to catch her phone with her foot before it hit the ground and then returned it to her hand. Walker was also able to block punches thrown by Malcolm Ducasse when he confronted her in his office. She anticipated the movements of security guards with batons and even caught a knife swung at her by Sallinger effortlessly. Her reflexes allowed her to dodge taser shots from Carl Nussbaumer, evade multiple strikes from Jace Montero's baseball bat and wrench, and avoid gunfire from Gregory Sallinger without getting hurt. However, her reflexes remain within human limits; she can still be surprised, as demonstrated when Jessica Jones hit her in an alley before she could respond.
  • Enhanced Agility: She shows amazing agility and tested her body coordination by navigating parkour obstacles. This allows her to keep great balance, flexibility, and skill, even when standing on one leg on a pole before jumping off a wall. She smoothly backflipped away from Jessica, who was trying to grab her. After quickly gathering information from a computer at an art gallery, she front flipped back to her seat just in time for the Tour Guide's return. Walker even managed to pin Jeri Hogarth against the wall with her leg extended toward her throat. During her mission to eliminate Gregory Sallinger, she used her agility to run up an elevator wall, which helped her take control of the fight and win. Later, when she broke into Jeri Hogarth's apartment, she swiftly moved over the couch and briefly held Kith Lyonne hostage as bait for Jeri Hogarth to assist in her escape. Walker also demonstrated her agility by running up a wall above Jessica’s head to deliver a quick kick.
  • Enhanced Durability: Walker's toughness has increased significantly, enabling her to handle situations that are tougher than what a regular person can endure, but still within human limits. When Trish jumped out of the window during Jessica's investigation, her sister hit her on the right side of the face, causing Trish to fall into an alley. Remarkably, she got up without any pain or visible injury. She can also manage the impact from falling from high places; for instance, she jumped off a building and landed without feeling any discomfort. Later, while acting as a vigilante, she jumped down from a bridge beam and landed safely. During her fight with Gregory Sallinger, she managed to break free from his chokehold long enough to turn the tables and win. Even after Jessica threw her into a wooden crate—something that would knock out an average person—Trish stayed awake. However, Walker's durability is still not as strong as Jessica Jones's; Jessica was able to take Walker down with one slam, leaving Walker too weak to fight back.
  • Night Vision: Walker’s eyesight has improved so much that she can clearly see objects, even in complete darkness. As she left Jessica’s apartment, she scanned her surroundings and noticed everything in bright, clear colors. She also used her enhanced vision to look into the dark area where Sallinger hid his victims and in the kitchen where Erik Gelden was caught. After breaking into Sallinger's apartment, Walker entered a pitch-black room and quickly saw him running toward her. After taking down Gregory Sallinger, Jessica walked into Trish Walker's hideout with all the lights off, and Trish praised her for not being affected by the darkness. Walker also managed to briefly overpower Jones by destroying the generator to turn off all the lights, allowing her to use her night vision to strike while dodging punches.

Powers & Abilities[]

  • Expert Martial Artist: Due to the abuse she suffered as a child, Walker began training in the self-defense techniques of Krav Maga, though she was injured during these lessons until she was certified. She resorted to use what she learned when Will Simpson attacked her at her apartment. Notably, she was able to catch Jessica Jones off guard and body slam her into the floor. She was able to incorporate these self-defense tactics when defending Malcolm Ducasse from a group of bigoted thugs who assaulted him, albeit with the aid of Combat Enhancers. Upon awakening her newfound powers, Walker also began training in boxing and incorporated her incredible agility into her fighting style to fight against the criminals of Manhattan. She was able to overpower Gregory Sallinger in both of their fights.
  • Knife Proficiency: Walker can use a knife in combat. This is seen when she used Sallinger's knife against him during their first fight and when she attacked Jessica with a knife during their final fight, but only managed to stab her through the hand.
  • Expert Marksman: Walker appeared to be proficiently skilled in using firearms, as she used the revolver given to her by Will Simpson to shoot Kilgrave in his arm. Also, from a considerable amount of distance, she was also capable of assassinating Alisa Jones while she was onboard the ferris wheel in Playland via shooting her directly in the head.
  • Expert Acrobat: Walker is shown to be a highly skilled acrobat. She can perform backflips off of walls, front flip into chairs, and even use her acrobatics in combat, demonstrated when she first kicked a man, then landed a second kick and used him to propel herself into a backflip. Due to her heightened agility, her acrobatics come naturally to her and thus make her a highly mobile combatant, which grants her a high edge in combat.
  • Bilingualism: Walker spoke both native English and French; she used her ability to speak French to get Maury Tuttlebaum a seat in the restaurant Sattere.
  • Investigator: Walker singlehandedly exposed IGH's illegal activities. When she became a masked vigilante, she effectively followed clues and information, such as Sal Blaskowski's criminal records when trying to determine the identity of the individual who stabbed Jessica.
