~ Henry meeting Steve. |
Henry is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Garrett Garrison) of the 2025 fantasy action adventure film A Minecraft Movie, based on the video game franchise of the same name. He is the younger brother of Natalie.
He is portrayed by Sebastian Hansen.
Appearance[]
Henry is a young boy with light skin, green eyes and black curly hair. When entering the Overworld, he is wearing a deep-red hoodie with a grey undershirt, a bag, navy blue jeans and black sneakers.
Personality[]
For a child his age, Henry is incredibly creative and intelligent. Socially, he faces difficulty finding friends, but tries to remain optimistic. He also blew up Chuggy the Chip. While in the Overworld, he finds his passion as an innovator, representing modded Minecraft. Using objects from his world he manages to create many one of a kind inventions, which he uses to achieve many impressive feats of bravery.
More than just creative, Henry is also very intelligent in general, being knowledgable on many subjects and skilled at math. Due to his intelligence, he is also very observant, figuring out from context clues that Garrett had an unhealthy greed. However, he can also be very judgemental and hyperbolic, referring to Garrett as "literally the most selfish person to ever exist" and similarly bold claims.
Abilities[]
Henry possesses great creative and intellectual capabilities, being able to conceive of mathematically feasible innovations such as a jetpack and robot. While in the Overworld, this manifests into him being capable of manipulating blocks into impossible forms, creating the potato launcher using real world objects and the Super Iron Golem by combining iron and the Boots of Swiftness.
While in the woodland mansion, many of his physical capabilities are also tested. He manages to overcome the powers of the enderman, rejecting the anxiety and trauma projected into his mind. After overpowering the enderman, he is shown to be incredibly durable, surviving falling down several stories with minimal injury.
Biography[]
Following the death of his parents, he and his sister Natalie moved out into a new town in Idaho. Henry felt incredibly complex emotions during the situation, but tried to push forward, retreating into his sketchbook. On his first day to school, Natalie gave him a dish of their mother's tater tot recipe and the cologne Velvet Mischief. While on the way on his bike, he stumbled upon the store Game Over World, where he met the washed up minor celebrity Garrett Garrison. The two get along well, Garrett offering to mentor him. Upon arriving at Chuglass High School, he meets his art and gym teacher Mr. Gunchie, who takes issue with his creative spin on a class assignment. He also faces adversity from several bullies, who ridicule his ideas for a jetpack, which he insists is mathematically feasible. Determined to prove them wrong, he ends up building his idea and convinces his classmates to watch him. However, malpractice from his opposition results in the jetpack being sabotaged, ending with the destruction of Chuggy.
Now widely hated and risking suspension from his class, he bribes Garrett to help bail him out, convincing him to drive over in his car and pretend to be his uncle. Meeting back at the store, Henry notices the Earth Cube on a shelf, and discovers a set of instructions warning against its creation. As he goes against the warning and puts them together, he gets dragged against his will to the mine. Inside he fatefully discovers the Earth Portal, with Garrett, Natalie, and Dawn chasing after him.
Upon entering the Overworld, Henry is amazed and very impressed by the alien landscape. However, everything changes when night falls, he and his friends having to fend for their lives. After narrowly escaping a group of spider jockeys, he accidentally runs into a tree, discovering that every block can be broken and collected. Using this realization, he begins collecting many more logs and other blocks, creating a large tower to protect from hordes of the undead. In the process, the Earth Crystal ends up being shattered by an arrow, stranding the characters in the Overworld.
Things change when Henry and his friends meet Steve, who fills them in on half of the current situation. Agreeing to work together, he takes them to regroup at Midport Village, establishing that Steve is an established hero with a long legacy. After feeling insulted by Natalie telling him to grow up, Henry blows up at her and walks away. He and Garrett then decide to check out Steve's personal stash, impressed by artifacts obtained across his adventures. After Garrett accidentally invents the buck-chuckets on a crafting table, Henry pitches in his own idea, pulling out several items left in his pockets. The resulting creation is a tater-tot launcher, which amazes Steve.
Tensions rise as General Chungus makes his presence known, sending the piglins to commit petty acts to annoy villagers, bringing the town to complete chaos. Henry and Natalie are forced to split up due to the pandemonium, as Steve urgently leads him and Garrett up to a castle structure. Equipped with elytra, Henry tries to escape an army of ghasts and hoglins. After using a firework rocket, the three heroes end up being clumped together and crash into a jungle. Their mission from there is to locate the Woodland Mansion and find a new Earth Crystal, purportedly needing to enter the Redstone Mountains first. Henry is suspicious of this route, but continues on with the adventure.
Within the mine, Henry is amazed to discover various types of redstone appliances, until the trip is interrupted by an attack from the Great Hog. Escaping with a minecart, they accidentally end up trapped inside Steve's creeper farm, resorting to detonating the creepers to defeat their enemy. On the way out, Henry figures out that the two grown-ups arranged to recover a stash of diamond to pay off Garrett's debts. Furious, the two get into a heated argument, but still agree to work together as Steve forms a plan to break inside.
While Garrett and Steve distract several vindicators with saxophones and mushroom hats, Henry sneaks inside and ventures up all three stories into a treasure room. Inside, he searches urgently through multiple chests, until he finally locates the replacement crystal. Unfortunately, it's too late, as an enderman appears and entrances him, tormenting Henry with visions of his friends hating on him. Managing to snap out of the hallucination, he's able to defeat the enderman quickly, and proceeds to meet back up with his friends, helping them escape a fight ring. On the way out, they end up cornered by Malgosha, who unleashes several tons of TNT and steals the Orb of Dominance. In a noble sacrifice, Garrett decides to take the threat by himself, Henry finally forgiving him after seeing his bravery.
Regrouping in a mushroom tower, Henry and Natalie make up for their prior argument, having grown over their separate quests. As the Great Darkening is unleashed, Henry comes up with a plan to stop it. They all make their way back to the village, ordering Steve to acquire advanced materials such as iron and relics like the Boots of Swiftness to use in the final battle. Now equipped with an army of iron golems, Henry takes it upon himself to end the conflict, firing an ender pearl up onto the top of the Nether portal. However, he ends up being sent falling off, but is saved at the last minute by Garrett piloting a war ghast. Using the ghast's pyrokinetic abilities, the beacon is destroyed and the day is saved, quite literally.
Upon returning home, Henry manages to return to a normal life, now working on two separate projects. He manages to finish his jetpack, redeeming his reputation at school, and helps with programming Garrett's idea for a video game, Block City Battle Buddies.
