The Hero of the South is a posthumous character in the adventurer manga and anime series Frieren: Beyond Journey's End. He is an unnamed legendary hero from the past, even earlier than when the Hero Party was formed. As his title suggested, he was the greatest fighter of mankind due to his notable accomplishment of succeeding take down three of the Seven Sages of Destruction at Northern Plateau where his final battle and moment took place.

The Hero of the South was a collected man who had little fear for death thanks to his ability of future foresight. Regardless of his regret of not being the Hero who would vanquish the Demon King, thus risking obscurity among the populace, he remained undeterred and persevered. Confidence in his own prowess buoyed him, boldly asserting his status as humanity's mightiest champion. Serene in the face of mortality, the Southern Hero knew his demise would serve a purpose. He steadfastly vowed to carve a path for the future Hero destined to conquer the Demon King. Even in death, his valorous acts resonated among the people of the northern lands, particularly in Fabel Village, underscoring his underrated the impact on history despite his foresight. Even prior to conversing with Frieren, he foresaw her refusal, leading to his indifferent reaction. Despite the foreknowledge of his demise by demonic forces, he persisted in his dedication to humanity's defense.
