“ | We have to stick together and fight to stop it. The alternative is too horrible to contemplate. To leave the people of this land on their own against such a force? Unthinkable! | „ |
~ Valorie in The Rise of the Arch-Illager. |
“ | Who would have the valor, the purity of heart, to stand against the Arch-Illager's reign of terror? Well, not that one. But maybe... you? | „ |
~ The opening cutscene of Minecraft Dungeons. |
The Heroes, canonically named Valorie, Adriene, Hex and Hal, are the main protagonists of the 2020 video game Minecraft Dungeons and the secondary antagonists of its prequel book, Rise of the Arch-Illager. They are a quartet of wandering heroes, who become the Overworld's only resort against Arch-Illager's onslaught.
The game can be played on multiplayer also (maximum of four players). In the spin-off, players can also use the skin of Steve and Alex from the original game as playable characters (although the opening and ending cutscenes still features the four mentioned skins).
Appearance[]
Unlike vanilla Minecraft, the skins are pre-made for the player to choose, with more being unlocked through DLCs or seasonal adventures. This means that it is impossible to have custom-made skins without the use of mods.
Personality[]
The main characters have a heroic, and kind personality and are willing to protect and save the villagers from the Illager's treachery and from the antagonistic hostile mobs, and will stop the Arch-Illager from taking over the Minecraft world by any means, exploring so many dungeons filled with enemies.
The Rise of Arch-Illager gives more insight on the four "canonical" player characters, dubbed as "heroes". Though they are unable to communicate with Villagers and are willing to use their property without asking permission, they care for their well-being and protect them from anyone who tries to hurt them, be it Illagers, mobs or fellow, less morally restrained "heroes".
Biography[]
Rise of the Arch-Illager[]
The four heroes are first seen stopping the fifth hero, Karl, from attacking an exiled Illager Archie and his friend Yumi. Dragging Karl away from the village, they chastise him for his obnoxious behaviour and selfishness, causing him to point out that they abused the Villagers' hospitability just like he did, though never to the same level as him. The heroes' bases are later attacked by the Illagers to distract them from their attack on the village, so when they finally arrive, it's too late, as most of the Villagers are taken away. They, however, don't lose their hope of defeating Arch-Illager and saving them.
Minecraft Dungeons[]
The Heroes went through numerous dungeons and biomes while fighting endless forces of hostile mobs and illagers. With each mission completed, they were getting closer and closer to finally meeting the Arch-Illager. After many challenges, the heroes finally storm the Arch-Illager's stronghold of Obsidian Pinnacle. After the tyrant's defeat, the Orb of Dominance cracks, revealing the true culprit behind his crimes: the Heart of Ender, who manipulated Archie the whole time. After the heroes defeat him in a final showdown, they decide to make peace with Archie, and Valorie reaches out her hand as a gesture of peace, which he accepts. They forgave Archie for all of his crimes, and began to celebrate that evil was finally vanquished in the land of Minecraft.
Unfortunately, the celebrations did not last. When the Orb of Dominance shattered, four of it's fragment flew off to the Island Realms, corrupting the life there and disturbing the balance. These distant shards would corrupt a native being and turn them into mutated, hostile bosses which would continue corrupting their land. Fortunately, the Heroes travelled to each one of these Island Realms and defeated the hostile bosses along with the shards corrupting them.
The remaining fragments of the Orb put themselves back together, but without the four other shards, it was imperfect. The Orb hid itself within the ruins of the Obsidian Pinnacle. Dwelling within the blocks, the Heart of Ender felt rage and suffering while it felt its shards getting destroyed, until finally, they heard its message. Two Endermen uncovered the incomplete Orb, travelling back to the Stronghold where it first originated. As soon as the Endermen entered the portal, six massive Endersents emerged soon after, each taking an eye of ender out of the portal, ensuring that the Orb would not be followed. To the beginning...
The Orb would attempt reconstructing his broken form, but fortunately the Heroes hear about it. They travelled across the mainland, defeating the rogue Endersents and collecting the eyes of ender, heading into the Stronghold the reactivate the portal. The Heroes battled through the End while the imperfect Heart of Ender stalked them. Soon, they discovered the Orb's resting place on top of the Broken Citadel; a pool of void. The Heart of Ender dove into the pool, finally transforming into its perfect form. In a long, brutal battle, the Heroes defeated the Heart of Ender, returning to the Overworld to celebrate the end of the Orb's terror.
