~ Hex about Malefor. |
Hex is a major protagonist in the Skylanders series, being a major protagonist in Skylanders: Spyro's Adventure and Skylanders: Giants, a minor protagonist in Skylanders: Swap Force, Skylanders: Trap Team, Skylanders: SuperChargers and Skylanders: Imaginators, one of the two deuteragonists (along with Zook) of Cynder Confronts the Weather Wizard, and one of the two tritagonists (along with Wallop) of the comic series Return of the Dragon King.
She is an elf sorceress who used to use her magic to assist the mabu. After being hunted by Malefor, who wanted to use her power for evil, she eventually confronts him and defeats him in battle. However, this left Hex a shell of her former self, and she was rejected by the mabu for being undead. Master Eon saw her skills and brought her onto the Skylanders.
She is voiced by Courtenay Taylor, who also voiced Ada Wong in Resident Evil, K.O. from Ok K.O.! Let's Be Heroes and the Sole Survivor from Fallout 4.
Personality[]
Before her decent into the underworld to defeat Malefor, she was a highly optimistic sorceress who desired to use her incredible power to help those in need. However, when she turned undead, she became a lot more serious and calculating, with it even being stated that she only laughed once post-transformation. She can often come off as cynical to others, and is extremely prideful in her skills.
Despite her initial appearances, she has stated on numerous occasions that she acts this way out of loneliness instead of malice. Sometimes, she can feel that only Eon truly cares about her, since most of the Mabu and other Skylanders are scared of her. This eventually leads to Hex becoming extremely loyal to Eon out of gratitude.
Hex has a close friendship with Cynder, often going on mission with her. This is due to the two of them bonding from their own bad experiences with Malefor and that they both feel like they have a debt to Eon.
Biography[]
History[]
Hex used to be a famous elf sorceress. She would travel across Skylands, healing people with her nature magic. This changed when Malefor, the dragon king, heard of Hex's power, and wanted it for his own purposes. After hiding from Malefor for a long time, Hex decided that enough was enough and decided to challenge Malefor in the underworld. The two of them fought, and after a long battle, Hex came out on top. However, due to her travelling to the underworld, Hex lost her nature magic and became an undead being. She was ostracized by the mabu for being undead, even though she saved all of them. Eon heard about this, and invited Hex to join the skylanders, to which she agreed.
Spyro versus The Mega Monsters[]
Hex is mentioned in Spyro versus the Mega Monsters, where it is mentioned that she and Cynder had to take care of a giant cockroach who was attacking the villages in Lucky Lagoon. However, Kaos, pretending to have reformed, defeats the cockroach first.
Cynder Confronts the Weather Wizard[]
Hex one of the two deuteragonists in Cynder Confronts the Weather Wizard. She goes along with Cynder and Zook to save the inhabitants from a freak rainstorm that causes all of the sand to become quicksand. Even though she saves the Mabu, some of the inhabitants still mock her over her becoming an undead Skylander. They quickly learn that crazy weather issues have cropped up in numerous other locations, and they go to check out another area of note, the Isle of the Dead. When they arrive, they are attacked by wildlife, but are saved by Flunky and Dogwood. In town Mayor Morbo explains to them that there is a case of extreme sunlight, which could hypothetically kill their crops, which are undead. Morbo reveals that the weather was caused by Hurrikazam, a weather wizard being blackmailed by Kaos.
The trio tries to defeat Hurrikazam, but he escapes to the Cloud Citadel. In the citadel, he reveals a machine that turns undead beings into living creatures. When the Skylanders attempt to confront him, Hurrikazam is forced by Kaos to imprison them. Despite his previous actions, Hurrikazam refuses to drain Hex's and Cynder's energy, forcing Kaos to do it himself. However, he accidentally lets the Skylanders free. But just before they can attack and defeat Kaos, Hex betrays Cynder and Zook, trapping them with bones. She then reveals that she is sick of being treated like trash due to her being a undead Skylander, and she wants to be respected again. She offers to power Kaos's machine, but her power is too much for the machine, revealing that she planned to pretend to switch sides to destroy Kaos's machine.
The three Skylanders then defeat Kaos and his army. Hex reveals that she already embraced her darker side a long time ago, and accepted the fact that she is undead. The trio were greeted as heroes in the village, and Morbo offers that Hex can stay with them if she doesn't want to return to the land of the living. Hex declines the offer, saying that she thinks that she is accepted with the Skylanders. Hurrikazam then gives the trio a gift; the Undead piece of the Mask of Power.
The story ends with Hex, Cynder and Zook returning home, only to hear the awful news; Eon has been captured and the other pieces of the Mask of Power have been stolen.
Return of the Dragon King[]
Hex was first seen in this story putting on a show for the mabu in Woodburrow. When she needed a volunteer for her tricks, she picked Calliope as her assistant. Calliope manages to steal Hex's powers, with Hex being none the wiser. She eventually realizes that Calliope stole her powers when she tried to fight a gang of Drow, but couldn't use most of her abilities. She agrees to go to Cadaverous Crypt with Spyro and Cynder, who also lost their powers, to get revenge on Calliope, and is joined by Wallop, Flynn and Mags. They track down Calliope, but she destroys the gem with all of their powers. It turns out that smashing the gem gave Malefor their powers, and he quickly renders them unconcious.
Hex, Spyro, Wallop and Cynder wake up to find themselves chained up and almost completely powerless. Calliope comes in, offering food, and reveals that she felt that she had no choice, since she had to try to find her lost family, and Malefor offered to help. Calliope also reveals that Malefor's main goal is to make Spyro, Cynder and Hex suffer as much as possible since they have caused the most trouble to him out of anyone. Cynder and Hex end up opening up about their pasts, and the four of them are eventually broken out by Flynn and Mags.
Hex goes with Spyro, Cynder and Wallop to try to stop Malefor from destroying Skylanders Academy. They challenge Malefor, and despite their weakened powers and Malefor's great strength, the four of them manage to hold their own against Malefor. Hex eventually comes up with the idea of crashing Flynn's ship into Malefor to weaken him, and it works. After an intervention from Persephone and Calliope, Hex redirects Spyro's attack into Malefor, destroying the crystal that held the other Skylander's powers. Malefor is swiftly defeated, and dies when he is tossed off of the academy and into the abyss below. The story ends with Eon, Hex and the other Skylanders agreeing to help Calliope atone for her actions.
