Hiccup Horrendous Haddock I is the overarching protagonist of Cresinda Cowell’s How to Train Your Dragon novels.

He is the first Viking to train and ride a dragon and the one who brought lasting peace between the Viking tribes and the Dragons. He is the ancestor of Hiccup III.

Biography[]

Thousands of years ago, during the Great War between Vikings and dragons, Hiccup was personally targeted by Merciless due to a prophecy that he would be defeated by a boy named Hiccup.

As such, the Dragon Leader sent Wodensfang to find and kill Hiccup to prevent his fall, however the dragon was injured on the way and stuck on a tree where it was found by Hiccup, who chose to save it instead of ending his life. This led to Wodensfang and Hiccup becoming close friends and Hiccup becoming the world’s first Dragon Rider.

Hiccup then used the famed Dragon Jewel in order to bring lasting peace to the Archipiélago.

Trivia[]

  • Hiccup seems to have been the inspiration for the films’ version of Hiccup III as his story has many more similarities to Hiccup rather than the version of Hiccup III that protagonizas the books.
