Hero Overview

Himmel, also known as Himmel the Hero, is the overarching protagonist of the 2020 fantasy manga series Frieren: Beyond Journey's End and its 2023 anime television series adaptation of the same name.

Himmel was the eponymous leader of the legendary Hero Party, which consisted of himself, Frieren, Heiter, and Eisen. Together, the Hero Party saved the continent by defeating the Demon King.

Himmel is voiced by Nobuhiko Okamoto in Japanese and by Clifford Chapin in English. Okamoto has also voiced Katsuki Bakugo in My Hero Academia, Genya Shinazugawa in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Accelerator in A Certain Magical Index, Garfiel Tinzel in Re:Zero − Starting Life in Another World, and Yoichi Saotome in Seraph of the End. Chapin has also voiced Katsuki Bakugo in My Hero Academia, Connie Springer in Attack on Titan, and Cabba in Dragon Ball.

Appearance[]

During his adventures, Himmel wore a refined ensemble consisting of white pants, a pair of black boots, a dark blue tunic with white linings, a white belt to which his scabbard was fastened, and a beige hooded cloak. In his old age, he wore a loose-fitting beige robe fastened by an orange fabric belt, and a blue hooded robe over the top of it.

As a young man, Himmel's eye-length hair was a pale blue color and he had eyes of the same color. He also has a beauty spot at the left side near his eye.

Personality[]

Himmel is openly friendly and an easy going man. He can also be narcissist when mentioned how he doubt that a statue of him will be built with his dazzling look.

A long time ago, I lost an old friend. Unlike me, he was straight as an arrow and he never abandonned anyone in need. If he'd survived instead of me, he would've saved alot of people.

He was brave man with a great talent at socializing and get along with others. Although he seeks for more fame, he genuinely tried to protect other’s sakes and excepts for honor in return. Anyone he met has witness have some solid respects for him, making him quite a well-known person. Himmel shows high gratitude to his friends of how much fun they had over the long journey of ten years. He also likes make jokes from time to time alongside Heiter and Eisen.

It was then revealed that his friendly nature toward her was more than that as he also had romantic feelings for her. Unfortunately for him, Frieren was never able to figure nor notice those signs due to not experiencing much in the way of emotions. Without fear, he stood up for others with no hesitation and even served as an inspiration and motivation to his companions for his heroism. Even though he, alongside his party have confronted a demon child who has devoured a human child, he showed mercy to her due to being a child herself and requested Frieren to spare her. He only realized his mistake a certain amount of time later when the demon committed another horrible act by killing the one who nurtured her and burn down his house. He orders Frieren to kill her for good and answers that he will not stop her this time.

5 decades later, Frieren reunites with Himmel, who is now a very old man. Even at that age, he still questioned if he is still handsome.

Trivia[]

  • The word "Himmel" derives from the German language, in which its meaning is "sky" or "heaven." Himmel embodied the words sky and heaven, as his color scheme matched that of a clear sky and the purpose of Frieren's journey was to visit Himmel's soul in Aureole, which was considered a heaven.
