Heroine Overview

Now that we know Hagiwara's troupe was outgunned... we can't hold back against the threat of two Enchanted Blades. There's only one individual who can combat a Sacred Blade... we'll send the Kamunabi's strongest fighter...
~ Kamunabi leadership deciding to deploy Kagari against Chihiro Rokuhira.

Hiyuki Kagari is a major character in the 2023 urban fantasy manga series Kagurabachi.

Kagari was the most formidable sorcerer in the Kamunabi, a governmental organization dedicated to protecting Japan from various major threats. Bold, brash, and fiercely dedicated to her duty, she wielded a power known as the "Flame Bone of the Starving" that allowed her to summon bones wreathed in powerful flames.

Appearance[]

Hiyuki Kagari was a tall, slender young woman with large eyes and slim, sharp eyebrows. She had messy, neck-length black hair with bangs that covered her forehead and framed her face.

Personality[]

She was willing to employ lethal force when she deemed it as necessary, especially against evil-doers, though she never seemed to revel in the act of killing. Kagari preferred for her own life to be on the line in battle, especially when she was facing an opponent she believed didn't fully deserve a death sentence, because having the additional excuse of self-preservation helped assuage her feelings of guilt after killing someone. As a result, she generally preferred fighting strong opponents who could hold their own against her than weak opponents that couldn't and became frustrated when someone held back while fighting her.

Powers & Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Spirit Energy Manipulation
    • Fire Manipulation: The sorcery of Hiyuki Kagari was a powerful ability known as the "Flame Bone of the Starving." It allowed her to summon bones wreathed in flames by chanting the word "Rikuo" and then stating the name of the bone or bones she wanted to manifest. By stating "Hand," she could summon a large skeletal fist that fit around her own arm and was useful in augmenting her punches. By stating "Ribs," she could summon a cage of large rib-like bones that could potentially shield her from attacks or entrap an opponent. The bones could be summoned from the ground or the middle of the air, and Kagari was able to telekinetically control their movements. The flames of Kagari's sorcery harbored immense destructive power, so much so that she could easily overwhelm the defences of certain Enchanted Blades and destroy entire palaces with a single blast.
    • Physical Augmentation: One of the most basic forms of sorcery was physical augmentation. By efficiently channelling the spirit energy present in their body, an individual could enhance their physical properties to a superhuman level. The amount of energy that a person possessed, as well as their skill at manipulating it, decided to what degree an individual could enhance their body.

Quotes[]

Whatever your beliefs... an individual who wields a Sacred Blade... is acting in self-service. You've got no business wielding a weapon of that magnitude in self-service. It should be controlled by the Kamunabi for the welfare of the nation.
~ Kagari explaining the responsibility of power.
I told you, stop it with the lukewarm crap! I'm fully prepared to kill you! Don't you dare hit me with the flat of your blade! I can't do this unless you come at me for real! My life has to be on the line too!
~ Kagari warning Chihiro Rokuhira to stop holding back.
Listen...I didn't kill him back then because he was so pitiful. I'm not as taken with him as you are. Right now...I'm ignoring orders to save something...that should be thrown out. But that's why...next time, I'll kill him. Even if he's pathetic. I'll get the Enchanted Blade. That's where I stand.
~ Kagari resolved to kill Chihiro Rokuhira.
Enough, Tafuku. Forget it. All of it. I've had enough of picking our battles. The Enchanted Blades... the Rakuzaichi... this Chihiro punk... I'm... destroying it all!
~ Hiyuki deciding to temporarily ally with Rokuhira.
