Hubert von Vestra is a major character of the 2019 tactical video game Fire Emblem: Three Houses and its 2022 spin-off sequel Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes.
He is the loyal-right hand man and advisor of Edelgard von Hresvelg and the future Minister of the Imperial Household in the Adrestian Empire. Hubert is often known for his cold apathetic nature, with an undying loyalty nature towards Edelgard, willing to do anything to help her achieve her goals, no matter how amoral it is.
While he is usually an major/secondary antagonist of all the other routes in both games, he can serve as the anti-heroic tritagonist of the Crimson Flower route in Three Houses and one of the two tritagonists (alongside Ferdinand von Aegir) of the Scarlet Blaze route in Three Hopes, should the player choose to support Edelgard.
He is voiced by Katsuyuki Konishi in the Japanese versions, who also voiced Xander in Fire Emblem Fates and Randal in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadow of Valentia, and by Robbie Daymond in the English versions, who also voiced Tobin in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadow of Valentia.
Personality[]
Hubert is known to be a cold and apathetic individual, with a strong sense of loyalty towards Edelgard, supporting her with every choice she makes, no matter how amoral it is. He is noted for being a threatening and sinister man, being seen as a heartless, sadistic, and cold man, as best seen when during the mission to eliminate as he displays a calm mind when he committed his first murder, or when he sadistically boasts towards his enemies. Because of this sinister personality, he's a impossible individual to talk to, some people are afraid of him.
Hubert tends to be rather rude and apathetic towards individuals he doesn't personally like, as best seen with Ferdinand. This is mainly because their methods highly clash with each other, as Ferdinand prefers using moral and peaceful methods, in contrast to Hubert's more ruthless and amoral methods. Because of this, the two heavily dislike each other and tend to throw insults whenever they talk to each other.
That being said, Hubert isn't completely heartless; as mentioned above, Hubert is gravely loyal to Edelgard, as he was stalwart servant to her since he was six, and the two had a strong friendship with each other ever since. Because of this, he was willing to commit questionable methods for the sake of accomplishing her goals. He takes House Vestra's vassalage to House Hresvelg very seriously at heart, and is even willing to threaten those who he sees as potential threats to Edelgard. It is later revealed that Hubert is in love with Edelgard, but he knows she just views him as a friend, and is perfectly content with it. In fact, he was willing to help Byleth and Edelgard grow closer to each other.
