I mean, just when you think this s**t can't get any more horrible...
~ Hughie Campbell to Billy Butcher.
We save everyone. Even if they don't deserve it. Especially if they don't deserve it.
~ Hughie to his teammates on helping Butcher and Queen Maeve at Vought Tower.
What's insane is that our solution to every problem is murder. I used to freak out whenever I saw blood. Now I barely blink at it. It shouldn't be that way. This isn't some f*cking Vought movie. Violence isn't brave. Neither is hating my mom... or A-Train or... anyone. But forgiveness, letting go, a little f*cking mercy... that's brave. It's crazy. But it's brave. It's about the last thing my dad ever taught me, and I just think... if we're ever gonna win against monsters, I think we need to start acting human.
~ Hughie's speech to the Boys on working with Victoria Neuman.

Hugh "Hughie" Campbell Jr. is the one of the two main protagonists (alongside Billy Butcher) of the 2019 Amazon TV adaptation of the comic book series The Boys.

Originally, Hughie had a mediocre life. He started out a mild-mannered guy with a boring job, who still lives at home with his dad — in the same bedroom he grew up in. The only light in his life is the love of his life: his girlfriend, Robin. That is, until a speedster superhero named A-Train runs through Robin, eviscerating and killing her on impact. Desperate for revenge, Hughie’s recruited by anti-"Supe" vigilante Billy Butcher and soon his world is turned upside down as he finds himself caught in the middle of a war against superheroes – who, as it turns out, are neither super nor heroic. He is the best friend of Billy Butcher and a member of the latter's titular team The Boys, as well as the boyfriend of Starlight and the former archenemy of A-Train respectively.

He is portrayed by Jack Quaid, who also voiced Brad Boimler in Star Trek: Lower Decks and Superman in My Adventures with Superman, and portrayed Nathan Caine in Novocaine.

Biography[]

Background[]

Hugh "Hughie" Campbell, Jr. was born around the 1990s to Hugh Campbell, Sr. and Daphne Campbell, and had a happy childhood. However, his mother suffered from post-partem depression and eventually left the family after failing to take her own life. Growing up in a world where superheroes existed, Campbell was a fan and idolized supes, such as the Seven's A-Train and the supe-detective Tek-Knight. At some point in his life, Hughie began a romantic relationship with Robin Wright, and was working at Bryman Audio by the beginning of the series.

The Boys[]

Season One[]

While speaking to Robin, she is accidently killed by A-Train, who has recently abused Compound V to make himself faster. When Vought allows A-Train to get away his crimes, Hughie becomes angry and refuses to accept the compensation the company has offered. At a park, Hughie meets a girl named Annie, who is a superheroine named "Starlight" and the newest member of the Seven. While at Bryman Audio, Hughie is introduced to Billy Butcher, who lies that he is police that he can help him get revenge against the Seven. Despite some reluctance, Campbell agrees to help Billy, using his invitation to receive the compensation at the Seven's Tower to plant the bug. However, Translucent discovers it and follows Campbell to Bryman Audio, but Butcher saves him and they place the supe in the back of a trunk.

When the two realize that Translucent is alive, Butcher decides to recruit Frenchie to help him create something that can kill the supe. Frenchie creates a bomb that is placed into Translucent's rectum, and Hughie kills him while Butcher and Frenchie creates distractions to keep Homelander away from their hideout. Hughie is later introduced to Mother's Milk, and works with him to plant cameras in Popclaw's home. The Boys catch her accidentally killing a man while abusing Compound V, and they blackmail her into getting information on Compound V. With little information, Hughie gains Annie's trust and manages to get tickets to the Believe Expo. During the infiltration, Hughie blackmails Ezekiel into getting information on a shipping of Compound V. While the others are working on finding enough on the compound, Campbell grows close to Starlight, but his need for vengeance and trauma from Robin's death leaves him troubled.

Butcher comes aware of Hughie's relationship with Starlight, and attempts to convince him to see her differently by taking her to an ACDS meeting. Billy also tells of his hatred of Homelander, as the supe raped his wife Becca years prior. The two return to the group, and learn from Mesmer that the Female was created to be a supe terrorist, with Vought's intentions to create terrorists so the Seven could be placed into the military. When confronted on wanting to restart his life with Annie, Hughie receives a phone call from A-Train, who has learned of Campbell's connections to the Boys, and threatens to kill his father if he doesn't arrive. Though Campbell arrives, he attempts to negotiate with A-Train to spare his father in exchange for vials of Compound V, but has the Female break A-Train's leg during the confrontation.

Hughie later meets with Annie at the park, where she confronts him on being responsible for Translucent death, but she is shot by Butcher. Campbell then reunites with Billy, whom explains that Mother's Milk and Frenchie have been kidnapped by Vought's Black Ops Soldiers and that he intends to leave them there to get his revenge on Homelander. Out of options, Campbell asks for Annie's help to find his allies, and she begrudgingly agrees. Hughie allows himself to be taken by the black ops soldiers, and has Frenchie and Mother's Milk use a wire that hid in his retainer to escape. Reuniting with the Female, the group are able to escape with the help of Starlight, but Campbell stays behind to help her fight A-Train. When the speedster suffers a heart attack due to Compound V abuse, Hughie attempts to help him, but Starlight tells him to go as she resuscitates him.

Season Two[]

Hughie and the group go into hiding as they are labeled fugitives, but Campbell works with Annie as she gives them information while within the Seven. The Boys attempt to work with Susan Raynor, but she is suddenly killed when her head explodes, leaving them with another failure. Butcher soon arrives after confronting Homelander weeks prior, and the group is tasked with finding a supe who is capable using telekinesis. The supe turns out to be the Female's brother Kenji, but when Butcher attempts to kill him, Hughie tackles him. As the Female attempts to stop her brother from running away, Butcher finally reveals that his wife is alive, having been placed in a secret compound since she has bore the Homelander's son Ryan. He then explains that he was assigned to capture Kenji in exchange to get her location, but later on, he punches Hughie, warning him to not get in his way.

The Female is able to capture her brother, and the Boys steal a yacht to reach their destination, but are stopped by the Deep via his whale. The Boys then evade the Seven, but Kenji is killed by Stormfront, leaving them without their prisoner, but managing to return to their hideout. Despite their loss, the Boys are assigned to get any information on a supe named Liberty, and Annie is brought along during said mission while Butcher travels to Becca's location. Campbell, Annie and Mother's Milk meet a woman who reveals that Stormfront is Liberty, much to the group's concern. During this time, Hughie rekindles his relationship with Annie, and supports Billy with Mother's Milk when they have to fight Black Noir.

The Boys and Annie then work together to infiltrate the Sage Grove Center, as Starlight found emails about the place from Stormfront's laptop. During the mission, Hughie is injured when an escaped prisoner uses his shockwave ability, but he is taken to the hospital to recover. Due to his injuries, Campbell is assigned to watch over Lamplighter, a former member of the Seven who was broken out of the Sage Grove Center. While unwillingly watching pornographic films with Lamplighter, he changes the channel and learns that Starlight has been arrested. Wanting to rescue Annie, Hughie convinces Lamplighter to help him sneak into the Seven's tower to find her.

During the mission, Lamplighter commits suicide in front of the Seven's mural, which causes the fire alarms to activate. Despite this setback, Hughie is able to rescue Starlight and her mother, but he receives ridicule from Mother's Milk from killing their witness to testify against Vought. However, Butcher is able to intimidate Jonah Vogelbaum into testifying, but he is killed by the mysterious supe whom killed Raynor. Hughie and Annie attempt to convince the others not to kill Stormfront so they can get evidence, and A-Train gives them information of Stormfront's past ties to the Nazi Party. Hughie and Annie then work with the Boys and Becca to rescue Ryan, and they witness Starlight, the Female and Queen Maeve fight Stormfront. Following Stormfront's defeat, Hughie decides to get past his vengeance, leave the Boys, and get a job at Victoria Neuman's Federal Bureau of Superhuman Affairs to stop Vought the right way.

Season Three[]

Some time has passed, Campbell has be given the position of senior analyst in the federal bureau, and has developed a friendship with Neuman. He also acts an asset of the Boys, giving them permission to stop corrupt supes in exchange they don't kill or torture their targets. Despite everything looking up for him, Hughie becomes nervous with his relationship with Annie, as she has been promoted to co-leader of the Seven and her newest teammate is her first lover Supersonic. Things also changed when he discovers that Neuman is the supe that can explode heads, witnessing her killed one of her friends due to his knowledge of something called "Red River".

Hughie decides that Vought cannot be stopped the right way, and works with Annie to find information on Neuman, as her friend kept calling her "Nadia". Finding that Red River is a place for children who have powers, Hughie gets information on all of the children there while also encountering Madelyn Stillwell's son Teddy. Campbell discovers that Neuman was adopted by San Edgar when she was young, and has secretly worked with him to keep his interests, such as killing Raynor and Jonah. Seeing that he can't stop Vought the right way, Campbell decides that he will have to stop them with Butcher's methods, explaining this to Billy when he reveals of Neuman's origins. Reuniting with the Boys, Campbell asks the Female to break his arm to explain why he can't come to work, as he wants to help them move Ryan from his location.

At Grace Mallory's location, she reveals how she was a case officer in 1984 during Operation Charlie, where she encountered Soldier Boy and Payback. She explains when Russian soldiers attacked their camp, Soldier Boy was supposedly killed and his body was taken away. Later on, the Boys head to Russia to find the superweapon, and Hughie discovers that Butcher has been taking V24, a modified version of Compound V that gives an individual powers for twenty four hours. He manages to take a vial for himself before going on the mission, and gains the ability to teleport himself, learning the ability when saving Mother's Milk from a Russian soldier. Instead of finding the superweapon, they find Soldier Boy, who has been experimented on by the Russians due to his near invulnerability.

Soldier Boy uses his radiation powers to attack Frenchie, but Kimiko saves him and gets hit by the blast, losing her powers. On their return home, Hughie finds himself enjoying his abilities, and later tells Annie, who reveals that Homelander learned of her plan to stop him from A-Train. Butcher, Hughie and Mother's Milk learn of Soldier Boy's presence in the states after he killed nineteen people, and speak with the Legend to learn of his whereabouts. The Legend reveals that Soldier Boy, asking for his costume, shield and Crimson Countess' location. The trio head there to confront Crimson Countess, as Butcher wants to make a deal with Soldier Boy to help them take down Homelander. During their mission, Annie arrives, and Hughie decides to speak with her as Butcher and Mother's Milk confront Soldier Boy.

During their conversation, Hughie and Annie witness an explosion and head at Crimson Countess' trailer, where they see an unconscious Mother's Milk and Soldier Boy leaving the ashes. When Annie prepares to attack him, Hughie intervenes, revealing that Soldier Boy will be there superweapon to take down Homelander. Hughie leaves with Butcher, and heads with Soldier Boy to a motel, further explaining their deal to help him find his former teammates so he can help them take down Homelander with his radioactive energy blast. Campbell stays with Soldier Boy in the motel room as Butcher leaves to find information, and returns with the location of the TNT Twins. Heading to a mansion, Soldier Boy reveals that the twins are hosting the herogasm, an event where supes have orgy's with other supes or humans.

In the mansion, Hughie encounters A-Train, who gives an apology over his actions, but Campbell responds by punching him in the face. When he encounters Annie at the event, he uses his powers to teleport the two away from the area, believing that he is saving her since Soldier Boy is there. The couple briefly argue, with Hughie admitting that he is bothered by Starlight's powers, resulting in Annie knocking him out when she decides to return to the mansion. Campbell later awakens and assists Butcher and Soldier Boy in fighting Homelander, managing to distract the supe long enough for his allies to pin him to the ground. The trio overpower him, but Homelander manages to knock them off at the last moment and fly away. The group then the leave the mansion, but catch the glares of Annie and Mother's Milk as they help people who were injured from Soldier Boy's blast.

Despite their failure, the trio decide to return to fining Mindstorm, a former member of Payback with telepathic abilities. Since he has become a recluse due to sensory overload, the group are forced to track down his public sightings, managing to do so since he leaves the woods to get his medical prescriptions. While in the woods, Butcher informs Hughie that has given Soldier Boy drugs to keep him calm, and Campbell notices that Billy has blood leaking from his ears. Soldier Boy then sets off one of Mindstorm's traps, resulting in the supe entrapping Butcher in an endless nightmare. Hughie wants to stay behind, but Soldier Boy convinces him to continue on. The two eventually come across Mindstorm's home after dealing with a brainwashed priest and nun, and Campbell teleports the supe to Butcher's location to awake Butcher.

Hughie manages to convince Mindstorm to awaken his friend, but is too late to keep his deal with Mindstorm when Soldier Boy kills him. Following the mission, Hughie and Butcher return to their hideout, where Billy receives a call from Annie that taking many doses of V24 can lead to death. Despite being informed of the situation, Butcher keeps the information a secret due to his need to get revenge on Homelander. However, Billy decides to prevent Campbell from taking another dose by knocking him unconscious in a gas station bathroom. Later on, Hughie was picked up by Starlight, whom explains that V24 is fatal, thus making him realize that Butcher saved his life.

After making up with Annie, they go to Mother's Milk's house to meet him and Queen Maeve before heading to Butcher, who has his teammates placed into a safe so he, Maeve and Soldier Boy can confront Homelander. The group manage to break out so they can help Butcher and Maeve, but Campbell finds one more vial of V24 and takes it with him. At Vought's Tower, Hughie assists Starlight by increasing the lighting in the building, deciding not to take the dose and believe in Annie. His assistance helps her and the Boys take down Soldier Boy, whom is captured by the CIA. Following the event, Hughie welcomes Annie to the Boys after she left the Seven as the team decide to focus on stopping Neuman.

Pre-S4[]

During the six months before the events of season four, the Boys worked with President Robert Singer to eliminate Neuman before her and Homelander's plan could come into fruition. At some point, Annie revealed that she was pregnant with Hughie's child, but the two decided to have an abortion and kept the medical records a secret.

Season Four[]

At a presidential campaign Neuman is attending, the Boys are tasked by the CIA to assassinate her before President Singer is elected. The team's plan go awry when Victoria's daughter Zoe attacks the team when she notices Frenchie and Kimiko, and Hughie and Butcher fail to eliminate Neuman with acid and a bullet to the head. After meeting with Grace Mallory and President Singer on the situation, Hughie learns about his father's stroke and reunites with his estranged mother. He learns that his father has given custody to Daphne if a situation like this happened, further frustrating Hughie. Despite this, Campbell continues to support Annie in her fight against Homelander and the Boys in fighting against the supes.

Wanting to flip A-Train, Mother's Milk tasks Hughie and Annie to observe the supes' movements, and they witness his past heroics being exposed by his brother Nate. Returning to the Boys' base, they are confronted by A-Train, whom gives them evidence that the starlighters accused of murdering Homelander's fan couldn't have done so. Later on, Hughie and Milk infiltrate a ice rink preparing for supes on ice to eavesdrop on Neuman. With the others not showing up, Hughie agrees to plant a bug on the meeting, but is compromised when a drop of sweat falls onto Homelander's shoulders. He is able to escape with the help of Mother's Milk and A-Train, saving him at the last minute before Homelander can corner him.

Afraid to lose his father, Hughie asks A-Train to get him Compound V, reminding the supes that he owes and everyone else for the things he's done. During the meeting, members of the Shining Light attack Campbell and Kimiko, but they are able to kill their attackers and escape. Following the attack, he is given Compound V from A-Train and the two absolve their differences as Butcher watches in the dark. Despite receiving the compound, he ultimately decides not to inject his father after Butcher reveals that he took the compound as well in hopes to give him more time. However, his mother unexpectedly finds the vial and injects him which revives his dad.

While the Campbell's repair their relationships with each other, Hugh Sr.'s begins to suffer form memory lapses and starts to kill patients and guards. Hughie is forced to euthanize his father, but is able to reach out and reconcile with him before he passes away. Following his father's death, Campbell returns to the team to help them investigate Tek Knight's party by disguising himself as the supe Webweaver. He suffers sexual abuse from the supe-detective but is rescued by Annie and Kimiko, whom interrogate Tek-Knight and learn of Homelander and Sister Sage's plans. Due to his recent loss and the trauma from Tek-Knight, Hughie breaks down and is comforted by Annie.

Learning of an apartment where Sage was seen, Hughie, Annie and Butcher break in and learn of a planned assassination attempt on President Singer. The trio encounter a woman hidden inside a closet, whom reveals themselves to be a shapeshifter who is tasked to kill Singer to allow Neuman to take over. Wanting to stop Homelander and Sage's plot, Campbell attempts to convince Neuman to change sides to no avail. Unbeknownst to Hughie, the shapeshifter captured Annie and has taken her place to erase the evidence the vigilante gathered from Red River. In the finale, the team protect Singer from the shapeshifter until the real Annie arrives and kills the supe.

Once reconciling with Annie over the situation, Hughie is contacted by Neuman, whom reveals that Homelander has threatened to hurt Zoe if she doesn't go through with his plans. Despite the bad blood between the two, Hughie agrees to have her change sides in exchange for Zoe's protection. Convincing his allies to go through with the plan, things go awry when Butcher, now healthy and under the control of his parasite, kills Neuman and leaves with the supe-virus. Following Neuman's death, Sage's plan come into fruition with Singer being arrested and Homelander becoming America's de-facto leader. The team go on their separate ways in an attempt to flee, but Hughie and the others are captured as Annie powers return and flies off.

Personality[]

Hughie... You're a good lad.
~ Billy Butcher to Hughie upon seeing him rip up Vought's check.

Hughie is compassionate and intelligent young man, but is also timid and unable to adjust to tough situations on his own. This changes when he desires to get revenge against A-Train after Robin's death, as he is willing to plant a bug into the Seven's tower and later kill Translucent. Despite this, Campbell has a remorseful nature, feeling guilt in using Starlight to help the Boys, and being uncomfortable with his teammates actions. He was horrified by Kimiko's ruthless nature, showing great fear when the group first encountered her. However, he later became friends with her, and valued her as a teammate when she became an official member. He is also deeply supportive of Starlight, as he was the only person clapping when she exposed the Deep for his crimes.

After becoming a fugitive, Hughie became distrustful and desperate to fight against Vought, and he had Annie get info from within the company. When Butcher returned, Campbell showed his immediate distrust towards him, as he hadn't forgave him for abandoning the team to get revenge on Homelander. His time as a fugitive also made him brave, as he stood up against Butcher on several occasions.

He could see the good in people, which was initially his naivete, but eventually became a strong sense of perception, thus why he chose to trust Annie with the truth, as he believed that she was actually a true hero, unlike the other frauds in the Seven. Hughie carried a powerful grudge against A-Train for his accidental manslaughter of Robin, which was aggravated by the supe's inability to accept responsibility or even care, but when A-Train began a redemption path and sincerely apologised to Hughie for what he had done, Hughie initially couldn't accept it due to being intoxicated by Temp V, however, he eventually genuinely forgave A-Train, as he accepted the supe had become a better person than who he was, and did feel genuine regret, which was one of the things Hughie desired most before. Hughie also tolerated a lot of abuse from Butcher, as he had seen glimpses of a good person in the aggressive man; even when Butcher turned against the Boys by allying with Soldier Boy, Hughie advocated for Butcher, hoping to save him from himself and Homelander. When Butcher would antagonise the Boys so much that he was kicked out of the group, Hughie would be the first to accept his return if he did. Although, even Hughie had limits, as after Butcher had become a Pseudo-Supe due to his V'd tumour (Joe Kessler), his senseless murder of Victoria Neuman, despite her defection to their side, finally seemed to make Hughie lose hope in his friend's chance at redemption.

Hughie was traumatised upon first being confronted by blood and gore when Robin died, and he was similarly shocked when he killed Translucent with Frenchie's anal explosive. Yet as his experiences with violence continued, he became numb to it, which was to his disgust and disappointment; he used his unwilling acceptance of graphic violence as another motivation to advocate for peaceful solutions if and when possible, so they could actually fight inhuman forces by being human, instead of another version of heartless brutality.

Hughie would struggle with attachments, as he would become essentially dependent upon people who he grew to love, hence his initial vengeful desires when Robin died. Likewise, another element of his forgiveness of Butcher's repeat pattern of toxicity was the brotherly bond he felt with him.He also became terrified of losing his subsequent girlfriend, Annie, would drove him to lie and take Temp V to gain superpowers; taking the drug was both a means to protect her, but also to compensate for the insecurity he felt from being so powerless in comparison to her. The source of his inability to accept loss seemed to be based on being abandoned by his mother; he carried resentment for her for years, but upon their reunion and learning about her intense depression, he was able to mostly forgive her.

Hughie's strongest attachment was to his father, whom he initially dismissed as weak due to him refusing to go after his wife and refusing to fight against the hush money Vought offered Hughie to cover up Robin's death, however, he eventually realised that his father was strong, as he had remained to raise him his whole life alone, and never complained nor showed sorrow most of the time. Thus, when his father had a stroke, he managed to get a dose of Compound V to save him, yet chose not to out of knowing how the substance is predominantly dangerous. However, his mother incorrectly believed Hughie still wanted to use the V on his father, so spiked the drip with it; despite his fear, it seemed like his father had recovered, but in reality, the stroke had damaged his brain beyond repair, thus the V merely gave him moments of clarity between episodes of superpowered violence. Ultimately, Hughie Sr. had reached a clear enough mental acumen for Hughie and his mother to safely euthanise him, with Hughie being able to say goodbye to his dad without wasting emotion on fear and denial, rather express his appreciation for him, and allow him the most peaceful passing possible.

Appearance[]

Hughie remains fair-skinned and very lanky and tall with a thin face and small chin but his hair is changed to be much thicker and is also brown and wiry. He is also clean-shaven in this adaptation and dresses more like an everyday man wearing thin spring jackets along with several band shirts and simple jeans.

Powers and Abilities[]

Former Powers[]

  • V24: A modified version of Compound V that grants the user powers for twenty-four hours, Hughie started taking it after discovering Butcher's dosage. With the compound, Hughie was able to assist his allies in their plan to take down Homelander. However, there are numerous side effects of the drug, as taking many doses can result in brain lesions that lead to death. Due to Butcher preventing him from helping him confront Homelander, and Hughie deciding not to take the drug when helping Starlight, he has lost these abilities.
    • Teleportation: Hughie can travel to any location within a blink, but with the downside of not taking any of his clothes or accessories with him. He was also able to teleport others when he held onto them, but with the same downside of the person also losing their clothes.
    • Superhuman Durability: Hughie was granted enhanced durability from taking the compound, as he survived a blast from Starlight and being punched by Soldier Boy when he intervened in his goal to confront Mindstorm. While he survived these attacks, he showed some pain from them.
    • Superhuman Strength: Hughie's strength was greatly enhanced when taking V24, as he was able to punch through a Russian soldier's torso without much effort. He later punched A-Train with great force to hurt him, pushed Homelander when he was holding Butcher against a wall, and pin down the supe with the assistance of Butcher and Soldier Boy.
    • Superhuman Reflexes: Hughie's reflexes were also enhanced, evading Homelander's heat vision at the Herogasm event.
    • Superhuman Hearing: Like all supes, his hearing was enhanced, allowing to him frequencies that humans couldn't.
    • Regenerative Healing Factor: He was granted a healing factor from the compound, as his broken arm was healed after taking it the substance.

Abilities[]

  • Intelligence: Hughie is highly intelligent, with Butcher considering a man "full of surprises", having discovered Translucent's weakness at Bryman Audio.
  • Master Tactician: He is a skilled tactician, as he came up with a plan to save Mother's Milk, Frenchie and the Female from Vought's captivity. Campbell's intellect and quick thinking has also come out of dire situations, such as when he blackmailed Ezekiel in getting him information on Compound V after his phone died due to being in water.
  • Skilled Engineer: Having worked at Bryman Audio, Campbell is tech savvy and has great knowledge on electrons. His engineering skills were pivotal in getting control of Popclaw's cameras, or hiding Translucent from the Seven by using foil.
  • Gunmanship: Though not as skilled with guns like his teammates, Campbell is skilled enough to use a rifle to kill several black ops soldiers. It's currently unknown whatever he has received further training from his teammates.
  • Combatant: While not much of a fighter, Hughie has shown some proficiency in close-quarter combat. When empowered by V24 he throws a punch onto A-Train’s face and blows Homelander back from his teammates, then as a regular human, he and Kimiko get ambushed by gang members in a building where she quickly teaches him how to wield a torn out drawer as a shield and a box cutter as a melee weapon against them. After his Supe friend gets incapacitated, Campbell is left to defend himself against an armed assailant by lunging at him to cause him to drop his rifle and swing at him but he dodges and evades each strike to slash one cut to the leg throws office supplies at him before blocking with the shield till he loses it. And once Hughie gets cut on his leg he is briefly pinned against the wall by the assailant whose about to impale him but at fast pace moves quickly to stab his stomach with the box cutter which stuns him and he slips it across to use the defensive techniques taught by Kimiko of holding the latter’s arm out to slip one cut to it and fatally slits his throat.
