“ | This is no winter. Up in the hills we say that autumn kisses you, but winter fucks you hard. This is only autumn's kiss. | „ |

“ | Robin: I am starting to suspect you have been Bolton's creature all along. Is that the way of it? Did he send you to us to whisper poison in the king's ear? Hugo: Lord Pea Pod. If you were a man, I would kill you for that, but my sword is made of too fine a steel to besmirch with craven's blood. Aye, men are dying. More will die before we see Winterfell. What of it? This is war. Men die in war. That is as it should be. As it has always been. |

“ | Corliss: Do you want to die, Wull? Hugo: I want to live forever in a land where summer lasts a thousand years. I want a castle in the clouds where I can look down over the world. I want to be six-and-twenty again. When I was six-and-twenty I could fight all day and fuck all night. What men want does not matter. Winter is almost upon us, boy. And winter is death. I would sooner my men die fighting for the Ned's little girl than alone and hungry in the snow, weeping tears that freeze upon their cheeks. No one sings songs of men who die like that. As for me, I am old. This will be my last winter. Let me bathe in Bolton blood before I die. I want to feel it spatter across my face when my axe bites deep into a Bolton skull. I want to lick it off my lips and die with the taste of it on my tongue. |

Hugo Wull, also known as Big Bucket and the Wull, is a minor character in the A Song of Ice and Fire novel series. He is the clan chief of House Wull, one of the Northern Mountain Clans. Out of the clan chiefs he has the most men. His nickname is a reference to his massive belly and his clan's sigil (three wooden buckets).
His clan holds great animosity toward the Iron Islands because of historical ironborn raiding of the Bay of Ice.
Biography[]
Bran Stark saw Hugo when he once came to Winterfell to renew his family's oath to House Stark and to talk with Lord Eddard Stark.
When Stannis Baratheon arrives in the North, he intends to gather the Northmen to wrest control of the North from Roose Bolton, who treacherously murdered his King Robb Stark at the Red Wedding and was made Warden of the North by the Lannisters. Stannis originally intends to march on the Bolton seat, the Dreadfort, aided by Arnolf Karstark (who is secretly working with the Boltons to lure Stannis into a trap). However, on the advice of Jon Snow, Stannis instead rallies the Mountain Clans and marches on Deepwood Motte, the last Ironborn-held area in the North. Stannis captures Asha Greyjoy, who had taken Deepwood Motte, and restores it to the Glovers, who join him, and the Mormonts declare for him as well.
After Stannis' army leaves Deepwood Motte to march on Winterfell, they are waylaid by heavy snows. The Northmen are used to this weather, however much of Stannis' army is made up of Southron forces, who have difficulty coping. The Mountain Clans encourage them to keep marching, but Corliss Penny accuses Wull of being in league with the Boltons. Wull says that men always die in war and that this will be his last winter and that he wants to die fighting, which many of the Northmen agree with. Stannis' army is finally forced to halt in an abandoned crofter's village three days from Winterfell, where they are joined by Arnolf Karstark.
Theon Greyjoy escapes Winterfell with "Arya Stark" (really Jeyne Poole, who was forced into the role so she could marry Ramsay Bolton and legitimize Bolton rule). They are found by another of the Northmen who have joined Stannis, Mors Umber, and brought to Stannis. The Northmen, including Hugo, want Theon dead due to him betraying his foster-brother Robb Stark and joining the Ironborn in attacking the North, and apparently killing his foster-brothers Bran and Rickon Stark. Stannis has the Karstarks arrested and agrees to meet Hugo Wull after meeting Asha Greyjoy.
