Humba Wumba is a shaman who made her debut in the Banjo-Kazooie series in Banjo-Tooie. She introduced herself as Mumbo Jumbo's rival, taking up his previous role in Banjo-Kazooie as the shaman who transformed Banjo (and Kazooie eventually), while Mumbo performed a more active role by using his powerful spells around the world so Banjo and Kazooie could complete puzzles.
History[]
Banjo-Kazooie[]
Humba Wumba is one of the few characters in the series who made an easter egg appearance prior to their in-game debuts. While Humba Wumba herself does not appear in the first game, her name gets mentioned as an incorrect answer to one of the questions Gruntilda asks Banjo in Grunty's Furnace Fun.
Banjo-Tooie[]
Humba Wumba would reside in her wigwam in Banjo-Tooie, until the duo needed her magic. Humba's magic required a Glowbo to work, a magical creature Banjo and Kazooie would find around the world and bring to Humba Wumba. They would then throw it into a pool of water in the middle of the wigwam, and jump in to transform. Once the spell was completed, a Glowbo was no longer required for further transformations. If Mumbo ever came into the wigwam, she would tell him to get out.
The transformations offered to Banjo and Kazooie are more useful and powerful than the ones Mumbo Jumbo gives in the original game. The transformations in Banjo-Tooie are all combat-capable, unlike the ones in the original game, where only the crocodile transformation had an attack.
Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts[]
Humba Wumba runs a shop in Showdown Town and will sell Banjo and Kazooie blueprints and parts for Notes. She also appears in some levels hosting missions.
Transformation Spells[]
- Isle o' Hags - Dragon Kazooie: Kazooie is now a dragon with infinite Fire Eggs, and she can also breathe fire to harm enemies or cause them to flee. This transformation requires a Mega-Glowbo instead of a regular Glowbo.
- Mayahem Temple - Stony: A little stone statue which can shoulder-barge, go through small openings, and enter the Kickball Stadium.
- Glitter Gulch Mine - Detonator: The Detonator can self-destruct (causing damage to Banjo) and detonate TNT barrels.
- Witchyworld - Money Van: The Money Van is invincible. It can honk its horn to open special doors and pay to access some rides.
- Jolly Roger's Lagoon - Submarine: The Submarine can shoot torpedoes, release sonar blasts and withstand high pressure.
- Terrydactyland - Baby/Daddy T-rex: What form Banjo transformations into depends on the size of Humba's Wigwam. The Baby T-Rex is much smaller than Daddy T-rex and is not as feared, but it can enter areas the Daddy T-rex cannot. They can both perform short and long roars, although Baby T-rex has to learn how to do it.
- Grunty Industries - Washing Machine: It originally appeared as a joke in Banjo-Kazooie but plays more of a role in Banjo-Tooie. It can shoot underwear as projectiles, enter mechanical-personnel only areas, use the service elevator, and wash clothes. It is also resistant to hazardous terrain.
- Hailfire Peaks - Snowball: It starts off as a small snowball with low health, but can gain health by rolling in the snow which makes it grow bigger and heavier. It can also roll faster to damage enemies and solve puzzles. At the snowball's maximum size, it cannot go through many doors, but the fire next to Wumba's Wigwam can be used to shrink the snowball's size. If the snowball goes on the Fire Side, it will rapidly lose health and explode.
- Cloud Cuckooland - Bee: Returning from Banjo-Kazooie, the Bee can fly quickly and to enormous heights and can also shoot stingers as projectiles.
