Hurut, also known as the Champion of Khandaq, is the overarching protagonist of the DC Extended Universe 2022 film Black Adam.
He was one of the enslaved children during King Ahk-Ton's reign and was originally chosen by the Council of Wizards to be the champion of Khandaq before he gave up his powers to save his father, Teth-Adam.
He is portrayed by Jalon Christian while his Shazam avatar is portrayed by Uli Lateukefu.
Biography[]
Background[]
Hurut was born the son to Teth-Adam and Shirutara in Khandaq around 2600 B.C. Growing up enslaved under King Ahk-Ton's regime, Hurut and his parents were forced to dig in Ahk-Ton's mines for eternium to forge the Crown of Sabbac. Hurut eventually developed a sense of justice, dreaming of one day improving the situatuon.
Becoming Champion and Death[]
Hurut eventually defended the Djau slaves and rebelled against King Ahk-Ton and stole the mineral Ahk-Ton was trying to find. He waved his hands in a triangle shape to encourage the slaves to fight for their freedom, but was captured by the guards before he could save them. As he was about to executed, he was suddenly teleported to the Rock of Eternity where the Council of Wizards declared him their champion, giving him their godly powers.
Hurut returned in his Shazam avatar to save the slaves, but soon realizes he won't be able to save his parents who were scheduled for execution. Instead, he decides to save his father and transfers his powers to him, transforming him into Black Adam. Sadly, Hurut was then killed with an arrow by one of Ahk-Ton's guards immediately after giving up his powers. Black Adam holds his dying son in his arms and deeply cries at his loss.
Legacy[]
Hurut's death was avenged when Black Adam killed Ahk-Ton by destroying his entire palace in a godly explosion, but in doing so layed more ruins to Khandaq including accidentally releasing the Seven Deadly Sins. For the misuse of his powers, the Council of Wizards banished Black Adam in an ancient seal and made a statue of Hurut in honor of their first champion.
In 2022, Black Adam was finally awakened from his prison by Adrianna Tomaz to battle Intergang who were after the Crown of Sabbac. Black Adam's return caused the people of Khandaq to mistake him for Hurut, thinking he's the statue of their hero. Black Adam later tells the Justice Society about Hurut's sacrifice for him.
Personality[]
Hurut was a boy who tried to be cheerful, specially with his family, as he also showed a sense of justice by dreaming that the situation in Kahndaq could improve, when some gladiators attack some civilians, Hurut acted feeling that something should be done about it. Due to his acts of heroism in freeing Kahndaq from oppression, Hurut was chosen as the champion of the Sorcerer's Council as he was considered pure of heart, initiating a liberation of Kahndaq against Ahk-Ton. To prevent his father from dying, Hurut transferred his powers to him, sacrificing himself to save him.
Former Powers[]
- Devine Empowerment: Hurut was empowered with sorcerer's magic by the Council of Wizards, giving him the strength of Hercules, the lightning of Zeus, the intelligence of Atlas and the stamina of Shei. He later gave up his powers to save his father.
