~ ―Husk, responding to Alastor's proposal |
“ | I was an Overlord once, y'know? Yeah. And, uh, it was nice to have that power. But, when you're dealing with souls, while also being a gambler, the stakes are pretty high. And losing a few hands can be more than a little dangerous. So, when you're down on your luck, you'll turn to anything to keep you afloat. Even making deals yourself. So, I know what it's like to... regret the choice you made, and...know when you can't take it back. | „ |
~ Husk revealing his backstory to Angel Dust. |
Husk is a major character in the adult animated series Hazbin Hotel. He is a sinner demon who has the duty of front desk Clerk and Bartender at the Hazbin Hotel. He and Niffty were scouted by a mutual associate to work for the hotel.
He was voiced by Mick Lauer (better known online as RicePirate) in the pilot and by Keith David in the series, who also voiced The Cat in Coraline, Spawn in Todd McFarlane’s Spawn, and Goliath in Gargoyles.
History[]
Past[]
Husk was a former human in the '70s Chicago and was dead at the age of 75. He would be reborn in Hell as a Cat demon with an addiction to gambling and alcohol. During his time in Hell, Husk became a powerful Overlord, being a master at cards, but eventually his luck ran out and to try to change his misfortune, he made a bet with Alastor, however, he lost, being forced to sell his soul to his companion Overlord, becoming his reluctant minion along with Niffty.
Pilot[]
In the Pilot episode, he was summoned by Alastor when he was about to win in a card game. Husk was understandably enraged by this and calls out Alastor for it but Alastor convinces him to work for the Hotel and bribes him with Cheap Booze. Husk quickly accepts his role as the bartender of the Hotel and Angel proceeds to try to seduce him but Husk rejects him and then Charlie happily welcomes Husk to the Hotel and states that he will love it here but Husk himself states that he lost the ability to love years ago. Then during Alastor's reprise Husk gets angry at Alastor for taking a her from his eyebrow and flips him off. He is also in different towards Pentious attacking the hotel, but was disturbed by Alastor.
Season 1[]
In Overture, Husk mentions to the residents that Alastor could force people to stay at the hotel, as he did, before becoming upset by Angel's sexual advances. To record a new commercial, Vaggie recorded a conversation between Husk and Angel, in which Husk became frustrated by Angel's behavior. Husk and the others were going to film a new commercial for Charlie, but before seeing it, everyone discovered that the annual extermination was brought forward by six months.
In Radio Killed the Video Star, Husk is introduced by Charlie to a "reformed" Sir Pentious and witnessed the play between Pentious and Angel.
In Scrambled Eggs, Husk, Angel, Pentious and Niffty are forced by Charlie and Vaggie to perform trust exercises so that everyone could trust each other, but during the catching test, Husk became irritated by Angel's comments. After fleeing Vaggie's war training, Husk learned of the battle that Angel, Pentious and Niffty had, befriending the three and respecting Pentious for enduring a beating against a sinner as a champion, beginning to trust the other residents more.
In Masquerade, Angel shows one of his most famous porn movies to his friends, who look horrified, unlike Husk, who criticizes him, arguing with Angel about his performance and saying he is not "convincing". Husk reveals that as a bartender he knows more about his friends than they do themselves, telling about how Pentious was a coward, Charlie solved other people's problems and not her own, Vaggie judged everyone for their self-hatred and Niffty, he preferred don't say anything about her because it's disturbing. Finally, Husk criticized Angel as a fake, mentioning that he was hiding with his sexual and mocking attitude, but Angel did not care about his criticism, heading off to film another movie.
Husk was at the hotel bar and received a visit from Angel, to whom he served a drink, and tried to talk to him, advising him that his problems were not at the bottom of a bottle, however, Angel began to make advances to Husk, who steadfastly refused to fall for his charms, insulting Angel for being fake, causing Angel to go into a breakdown and get angry at Husk for his insults, fleeing the hotel. Husk was sent by Vaggie to a bar to find Angel, saving him from a gangster who wanted to drug him and forcing Angel out of the bar.
Husk confronted Angel about wanting to do drugs and drink, stating that everyone at the hotel accepted him no matter who he was, but Angel revealed that the reason he tortured himself was so that his boss, Valentino, would one day set him free after selling him his soul and be happy, a feeling that Husk understood, telling him how he was an Overlord, before seeing his soul to Alastor, filling the void inside him with alcohol. Husk began singing "Loser, Baby", making Angel see that they were both losers and if they joined together, they could change together, motivating Angel to follow his advice and together they defeated the vengeful gangsters, returning to the hotel, where Angel forgives Charlie. Now close friends and with a better relationship, Husk and Angel headed out for a drink.
