| “ | When I was a boy... My father taught me how to see the world. He taught me a code-- Truth without compromise, thought without error, and all things for the betterment of the whole. And he was right. And he was wrong. He was right to show me the whole. To show me how to work to make all things better. But... the whole is made up of many parts. Some lost, that must be restored. Some broken, that must be mended. Some yet to release their potential. That must be guided. And all of those parts-- from the smallest to the largest, from the lowest sinner to the highest saint-- must be understood. If we flinch from that understanding--declare it impossible, inconceivable-- Then all truth is compromised. All thought will contain error. When I was a boy, my father taught me how to see the world. Now... Now I will teach you. And perhaps I'll be right. And perhaps I'll be wrong. But we can try. | „ |
| ~ Hyperion. |
Hyperion is the name used by several characters in Marvel Comics, with the most prominent being Mark Milton, a superpowered being often seen as Marvel’s homage to Superman.
As a member of the Squadron Supreme and the Avengers, Hyperion represents the archetype of a powerful alien hero striving to use his strength for justice while grappling with the responsibilities and moral complexities that accompany his immense power. Depending on the universe, Hyperion has appeared as a hero, anti-hero, or even a villain, reflecting Marvel’s exploration of power’s potential for both hope and destruction.
Biography[]
Earth-712 (Squadron Supreme Hyperion)[]
On Earth-712, Mark Milton was sent to Earth as a child from a dying race of the Eternals and was raised by human parents, discovering his powers as he grew up. Taking the name Hyperion, he became Earth’s protector and leader of the Squadron Supreme, fighting for justice while attempting to guide the world towards a utopia, often facing moral dilemmas regarding the use of power for the greater good.
Earth-13034 (Avengers Hyperion)[]
The Hyperion of Earth-13034 was the last Eternal from his universe, who witnessed its destruction before being pulled into Earth-616 by A.I.M. and joining the Avengers. This version also took the name Mark Milton and fought to find purpose and protect this new Earth, bringing with him the experience of surviving a cosmic apocalypse and striving to prevent similar destruction.
Notable Storylines[]

Personality[]
Hyperion is defined by his strong moral code and deep desire to protect the innocent, driven by the hope of using his immense power for the betterment of the world. However, his alien origin and godlike abilities often isolate him, leaving him feeling disconnected from those he strives to protect. As a natural leader, he is willing to make hard decisions and take decisive action, yet these choices often weigh heavily on him, particularly when facing the ethical dilemmas of enforcing peace versus respecting freedom, as seen during the Squadron Supreme’s attempts to reshape society. Despite his power, Hyperion remains compassionate, constantly questioning how to wield his strength responsibly while searching for belonging and purpose in the worlds he inhabits. His interactions with other heroes reveal a man who, despite being nearly invincible, deeply values connection and the ideals of justice, embodying both the hope and burden of a hero who can change the world with his hands.
Powers and Abilities[]
As an Eternal, Hyperion’s powers are vast and include:
- Superhuman Strength: Comparable to Thor or Hulk, capable of lifting immense weights and striking with devastating force.
- Superhuman Speed: Able to move at incredible velocities, including flight at supersonic speeds.
- Invulnerability: Resistant to most forms of damage, including physical trauma, extreme temperatures, and energy attacks.
