International United Nation, commonly known as International Union or IUN, is a major heroic faction in the Ace Combat franchise, being frequently mentioned in the promotional material in form of in-universe press articles, and appearing as the initial protagonistic faction of Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown. They are an international organization meant to maintain stable relations between the world powers, and employs its own peacekeeping force in case of violation of international law. In spite of its stated goals, it's seen by many as incompetent and a proxy for Osean Federation.
History[]
Before Shattered Skies[]
In 1996, IUN forces and Federation of Central Usea confronted Erusean forces in a standoff in the Usean states of Ugellas and Amber. The news of an asteroid on a collision course with Earth forced the IUN to withdraw its troops. In the years prior to the asteroid impact, which happened three years later, IUN member states made preparations and let refugees from the Usean continent.
The Unsung War[]
In 2006, an IUN base in White Valley was seized by insurgents belonging to the organization Free Erusea. Mobius 1 attacked the base and put an end to the rebellion.
Before Skies Unknown[]
After Erusea lost control over Gunther peninsula, it became an IUN protectorate. Soon after Free Erusea was defeated, Independent State Allied Forces dissolved, and some of its units, including the Mobius Squadron, were integrated into the IUN, which kept military bases on Usea.
Skies Unknown[]
In 2014, Free Erusea re-emerged and organized a second rebellion. IUN sent its peacekeeping forces, including the Mobius Squadron, to quell the rebellion, and was successful in doing so.
In 2019, Erusea declared war on Osea and all Usean countries where Osea had military presence, arguing that Osean Federation violated the sovereignty of Erusea with its construction of the International Space Elevator. As over half of the UIN peacekeeping forces were Osean, this effectively pulled the organization into the conflict as well, where it supported Osea and its allies.
The space elevator was lost to Erusea in the first days of war, and an operation to rescue the ex-president of Osea Vincent Harling from the International Space Elevator was conducted. A number of IUN pilots, including Trigger of the Mage Squadron, took part in this operation, but the organization also gave the Gargoyle Squadron a secret assignment to destroy the space elevator, which they failed to accomplish. During the operation, Harling was killed by a stray missile, and Trigger was deemed guilty and transferred to a penal battalion, although further investigation proved his innocence. The information of IUN's role in the war following said incident is scarse, but one of their airbases is known to have accepted LRSSG aircraft returning from a mission to capture Farbanti.
Non-canon appearances[]
In Ace Combat: Northen Wings, the IUN sends its commissioner to Usea to examine the refugee camps. Erusea attempts to shoot him down to prevent the word of the mistreatment of the refugees spreading, making Grendel 1 try and save the commissioner.

- Its armed wing is sometimes called "International Union Peacekeeping Force", or "IUPF" for short, sharing the name with an organization featured in the game Ace Combat: Joint Assault, which takes place in an alternate continuity.
