Ichabod Crane is the main protagonist of Washington Irving's story The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. He appears in said segment of the 1949 film The Adventures of Ichabod & Mr. Toad. He is a superstitious school teacher who has a big appetite for life.
Ichabod Crane is also the main character of the 1999 horror film Sleepy Hollow in which this time, he is an officer. He is portrayed by Johnny Depp in this one, and he, though this is unusual, survives the whole film, as he returns the Headless Horseman's head to him.
Ichabod Crane, the new schoolmaster, falls for the town beauty, Katrina Van Tassel, and the town Bully Brom Bones decides that he is a little too successful and needs "convincing" that Katrina is not for him. As Ichabod rides home that Halloween evening, he encounters the terrifying phantom and is mysteriously missing the next morning. While the townspeople spread rumors of Ichabod’s whereabouts, Katrina weds Brom.
