Ignis (イグニス, Igunisu) is the anti-hero in Ultraman Trigger: New Generation Tiga. He is a alien Lishurian treasure hunter who came to Planet Earth for some reason and gets closely tied with GUTS-Select. He eventually gains the power to transform into Trigger Dark.

He is portrays by Kei Hosogai, who previously played Basco ta Jolokia in Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger.

Overview[]

Ignis is a treasure hunter from Planet Lishuria. At first sight, Lishurians are indistinguishable from humans on Planet Earth, but when they get excited or emotional, the difference becomes clear. As he’s always fond of saying, he quests only for the “top-class” treasures, and his galactic travels bring him to Earth, where he somehow meets up with and becomes closely tied to GUTS-Select

Personality[]

At first Ignis is an aloof, at times annoying, yet a shameless alien thief who is nonetheless polite, sophisticated, and superficially friendly with everyone. The latter half of the series sees him develop into borderline heroism, as he begins to work closely with GUTS Select to stop the Dark Giants, albeit for his own purposes. When he obtains the means to become Trigger Dark this is even more exemplified as he is far more brutal and ruthless than Kengo/Trigger but is undoubtedly on the side of good. Episode 22 even revealed that he planned to use the Eternity Core to resurrect his own people, the Lishurians, initially uncaring of whatever else happened to the Universe so as long as his friends and family came back, but his time with Kengo, Yuna, and Akito as well as the friendship they made was enough to make him hesitant and ultimately unwilling to actually go through with it. This in turn made him a much better person, as he was even willing to help GUTS-Select whenever and wherever possible when new threats such as Celebro and Zabil/Evil Trigger came about.

History[]

Past[]

About a century ago in Planet Lishuria, Ignis' home planet, Hudram has invaded his homeworld and massacring the entire population of the inhabitants after awoken from his imprisonment. While razing the Lishurians, Hudram deliberately spares young Ignis and leaving him the sole survivor for sick amusement. In which, Ignis' view Hudram as his sworn enemy for killing his people, seeking him in his quest for revenge.

Trivia[]

  • Ignis is a heroic expy of Kei Hosogai's tokusatsu villain role, Basco ta Jolokia from Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger. Both of them were extraterrestrial treasure hunters who had a knack to giving the good guys hard time for amusement. Additionally, they were initially motivated by greed. While Basco, being a proud backstabber, committed a series of treachery from his adoptive father AkaRed and his stepbrother Captain Marvelous, Zangyack Chief of Staff Damaras (literally), and eventually his own space monkey sidekick Sally when she's no longer use to him, Ignis, for all of his annoyance to GUTS-Select crew, is a kindhearted individual deep down who became close friends with them, in which he eventually abandoned his goal of reviving the Lishurian Civilization with the Eternity Core that would create a new Big Bang.
  • Ignis shares some personality traits with Jugglus Juggler.
