Impactor is a key figure in the Siege chapter of Transformers: War for Cybertron series.
In the series, he is initially a Decepticon before joining the Autobots after being saved by Ratchet.
He was saved by the Autobot medic and subsequently pledges his loyalty to the Autobots. This led him to question Megatron's increasingly genocidal actions. In the final battle, Impactor sacrifices himself to protect the Ark and the Autobots' plans to launch it into a Spacebridge.
He was voiced by Brook Chalmers.
History[]
Impactor was sentenced to slavery in the mines. During his life as a slave, he swore loyalty to protect the population of Cybertron, which he considered more important than any loyalty to any faction.
He has joined the Decepticons, due to a strong distrust of the Autobots due to their upper-class origins.
Transformers: War for Cybertron - Siege[]
Impactor led a squad of Decepticons in ambushing the Autobots, who had been lured to Iacon under fabricated intel that the Allspark was resting there. Though he managed to shoot a hole right through Cog's chest, an attempt to hit Optimus Prime with his wired harpoon saw the Autobot leader turn the tables on him. Impactor was trapped when a downed Seeker accidentally dropped a building on him. With Impactor assumed dead, Barricade took command of the unit and then took the blame when he had to report to Megatron, who was rather upset to learn that a valued soldier like Impactor had fallen.
Megatron would subsequently use Impactor's death at the hands of the Autobots to garner sympathy for the Decepticons and exacerbate anti-Autobot sentiments, broadcasting across Cybertron to lament the loss of such a loyal soldier. However, as it turned out, Impactor had survived the attack, albeit barely.
He was uncovered by the neutral doctor Ratchet, who patched him up and saves his life. He then worked as an assistant in his hidden clinic, as was the condition for his repairs. Impactor took to the role gladly out of genuine gratitude for Ratchet's help, assisting the other patients - even Autobots - without complaint.
When Wheeljack brought Optimus Prime to Ratchet's clinic to ask for his help in fixing the space bridge they'd discovered, Impactor saw the impatient Mirage pull his gun on Ratchet and rushed in to tackle Mirage to the ground, as well as chastising him for his elitist attitude and ignorance to the plight of the lower classes.
When Ratchet agreed to repair the space bridge, he told Impactor to stay at the clinic and work with the stronger bots there to keep the place safe, but Impactor decided instead to join Ratchet on the mission to ensure his safety, partly out of gratitude for his repairs and partly because of his personal oath.
This alliance with the Autobots was an uneasy one, with Elita-One demanding he remove his personal comm before he be allowed into the Autobot headquarters, something Ratchet considered barbaric. Impactor, however, consented, as a show of sincerity, informing the Autobots that he believes in protecting the people of Cybertron, not allegiance to factions. He disconnected his comm, but since it still broadcasted his signal, Jetfire and Skywarp were able to track it and discover the location of Autobot Command.
At Autobot Command, Impactor and Ratchet assisted Red Alert in his medical duties until the Spacebridge repair team was deployed. Impactor lamented Megatron's turn to abject tyranny, believing that the Megatron he knew would never have gone this far.
Tensions between Mirage & Impactor continued at the site of the Spacebridge, with Sideswipe accusing Impactor of setting them up when the Seeker patrol arrived earlier than expected. Impactor was able to quickly ease any doubts of his allegiance when he immediately knocked Ratchet out of the way of the Seekers' fire, taking a shot in the shoulder for his friend.
When Ratchet later successfully repaired the Spacebridge, Mirage extended his praise to Impactor for all his help, having seemingly come around to the Decepticon.
With the Autobots' entire communications grid downed due Decepticon virus, the Spacebridge repair team was left cut off from command. Impactor was unfazed, telling the Autobots they'd simply have to hold the Decepticon forces off themselves. During the battle for the space bridge, Starscream attempted to gun down Ratchet before he could activate it. Impactor once again put his body between the medic and gunfire, sacrificing himself. Ratchet actives the Spacebridge and checks on Impactor, who, with his dying breath, thanks Ratchet for showing him the light, and die in the medic's arms.
Trivia[]
- The series deviates from the traditional depiction of Impactor as an Autobot Wrecker.
