Indigo Keen (인디고 킨, 青菌) is a character from Rainbow Bubblegem, featured as one of the main protagonists alongside the other Mermaid Princesses. Originally the princess of the Deep Sea Kingdom, Indigo Keen was driven out of her home by Black Diamond and was forced to be a refugee, and as such harbors a massive grudge against her. Working with her fairy companion Prickle, Keen teams up with the other Mermaid Princesses to get her revenge on Black Diamond.
Keen is voiced in the Korean dub by Yeo Min-Jeong. In the Chinese dub, she is voiced by Jia Chenlu. The Indonesian dub has her voiced by Sani Oktania.

Physical Appearance[]
Indigo Keen can shift between four forms, with the first three following the mermaid/human/magical format that her fellow Mermaid Princesses can follow, as well as her own fourth form. The first three forms are dark-skinned with indigo eyes that display crescent moons in them and wavy indigo hair, with a right bang covering her right ear.
In her default merfolk form, Keen has a dark blue mermaid tail whose fins resemble a crescent moon. In this form, she has a light purplish-blue tiara and an indigo tank top with a navy blue crescent moon on it and light purple straps.
When she gets a human disguise, Keen has a light indigo long-sleeved hoodie with the image of a crescent moon on the chest area and a black skirt.
Keen's Magical Girl form, bearing the title "Lunatic Indigo," gives her rainbows in her eyes and purple and blue highlights in her hair. Her outfit in this form is made of a top hat, dress, gloves, and boots which are all indigo-colored; the dress has a rainbow crescent moon while the boots have thick rainbow outlines.
Keen's final form is a shadowy blob of darkness that cannot morph into any other forms other than her most recent prior form.
Personality[]
As the sole survivor of her kingdom being conquered by Black Diamond, whom she holds a grudge against for it. Keen, despite having a naturally mysterious, laidback front, carries a huge amount of trauma. Because of this trauma, she can be hostile and untrusting towards others, and pushes others away from her, but she is deep down a good friend who tries to help out.
Powers and Abilities[]
Keen is shown to be able to morph into a shadowy blob of darkness in both her civilian disguise and magical girl form. Despite lacking limbs in this form, she can slither around quickly and pummel enemies by ramming them, making this form useful for both hit-and-run tactics and escaping a rough situation. As a Magical Girl, she wields the Shadow Cane, which can allow her to manipulate shadows. She can also paralyse or trap her prey by slamming it on the victim's shadow, and is shown to be able to throw it as a spear.
Trivia[]
- Concept art showed that Indigo Keen would have wielded a bow and arrow rather than a cane; she is therefore one of two Mermaid Princesses to change weapons mid-development, the other being Orange Amber, whose hammer was replaced by an umbrella.
- Keen and Amber also have names that start with vowels.
- In Korean, Yellow Gold's name starts with a vowel, due to no consonant representing the Y sound; the smaller stroke used in the vowel gets copied to facilitate it.
- Keen is the only Mermaid Princess to not appear in the first episode, instead showing up in The Starfish King's Visit.
- The way that Keen can immobilise prey by slamming the Shadow Cane on top of the victim's shadow is similar to SCP-272, an object from the SCP Foundation franchise manifesting as a nail that can trap anyone whose shadow it lands in.
