~ Indigo Tribe creed

The Indigo Tribe is one of the major Lantern Corps within the Green Lantern franchise, wielding the Indigo Light of Compassion within the Emotional Spectrum. Unlike other Corps, the Indigo Tribe’s members are often former criminals and killers, forcibly inducted and rehabilitated through the power of compassion, transforming them into powerful cosmic protectors capable of channeling the other lights of the Emotional Spectrum in times of need.

Mysterious and nomadic, the Indigo Tribe plays a crucial role in maintaining emotional balance across the universe, demonstrating that compassion can redeem even the darkest souls.

History[]

Origins[]

The Indigo Light of Compassion was discovered by Indigo-1 (Iroque) and Abin Sur, who believed that compassion was essential to combat the rise of the Blackest Night and the threat of Nekron. Using the Indigo Power Staff, they formed the Indigo Tribe on the desolate planet Nok, recruiting individuals who lacked compassion—murderers, war criminals, and tyrants—and transforming them into agents of compassion to atone for their crimes.

The tribe’s true nature was kept secret from the universe, and even the Guardians of the Universe remained unaware of its methods for some time, allowing the Indigo Tribe to act independently while preparing for cosmic threats. The Indigo Tribe played key roles during:

  • Blackest Night: Assisting the other Corps in combating Nekron and the Black Lantern Corps, using compassion to stabilize the emotional spectrum.
  • Brightest Day: Continued aiding in maintaining emotional balance while guiding the universe through Nekron’s aftermath.
  • Wrath of the First Lantern: Joined forces with other Lantern Corps to stop Volthoom, the First Lantern.
  • War of the Green Lanterns: Aided in the battle against Krona, using their unique ability to channel other emotional lights.

Philosophy[]

The Indigo Tribe operates on the belief that compassion is a universal necessity and that even the worst beings can find redemption through forced empathy. By wielding the Indigo Light, members are compelled to feel remorse for their past actions, with the light forcibly instilling compassion until they truly embrace it.

Members of the Indigo Tribe are bound by compassion, speaking a unique language (“Nok”) that only they understand, though they can communicate telepathically when needed. They are calm, enigmatic, and deeply spiritual, showing no fear in the face of cosmic threats while adhering to the path of redemption for themselves and others.

Powers and Abilities[]

The Indigo Tribe uses Indigo Power Staffs instead of rings, granting:

  • Compassion Constructs: Indigo light constructs fueled by compassion.
  • Teleportation: Ability to travel instantly across the universe.
  • Healing: Use of compassion to heal others physically and emotionally.
  • Emotional Spectrum Mimicry: Ability to channel the powers of other Lantern Corps within range, including willpower, fear, love, rage, hope, and avarice.
  • Compassion Imposition: Forcibly instills compassion and empathy into the most hardened criminals, compelling them to feel remorse.
  • Stealth: Their nomadic nature and emotional manipulation make them difficult to track.

Notable Members[]

  • Indigo-1 (Iroque): The leader of the Indigo Tribe and former murderer, now a wise and compassionate guide who aids the Green Lantern Corps during crises.
  • Munk: Trusted second-in-command to Indigo-1, aiding in channeling the light and the Tribe’s missions.
  • Black Hand (William Hand): Temporarily forced into the Indigo Tribe to instill compassion and suppress his necrophiliac tendencies.
