Inklings (Not to be confused with Professor Inkling Octopus) are a race of half-squid/half-human hybrids and are the main protagonists of Splatoon. They ink their turf and try to save Inkopolis from the Octarians. Their rivals are none other than the Octolings. The Inkling girl has long tentacle-like hair that goes down to their waist while the Inkling boy's variant is rather shorter. In Splatoon 2, they have more hairstyles.
In Splatoon
In Splatoon's single player mode, their Inkling (Agent 3 by Cap'n Cuttlefish) is tasked to bring back the Zapfish and the Great Zapfish, which were all stolen by the Octarians.
Other
The Inklings appear in Super Smash Bros. 4 as DLC costumes and as a trophy. They also appear in costumes in Super Mario Maker and Yoshi's Wolly World. They are also set to appear in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
Trivia
- While they exist as a costume for the Mii Fighters in Super Smash Bros. 4, it's unlikely for them to ever be playable fighters in future DLC.
- Even though they're based off sea creatures, they will drown in water.
