Iska better known as the Successor of the Black Steel and formerly as the Traitor of the Empire, is the one of the two main protagonists who is the male protagonist of the series Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World (while the female protagonist is Aliceliese Lou Nebulis IX/Alice). He is the main protagonist (while Alice is a deuteragonist).
He is voiced by Yūsuke Kobayashi in the Japanese version, and by Jason Liebrecht in the English version.
Overview[]
He is the former Saint Disciple of the Heavenly Empire who is the youngest. However, he became a traitor to the Heavenly Empire when his rank was stripped and imprisoned by the Empire for his actions after he liberated an Astral Mage who is just a little girl with a weak Astral Power (Sisbell Lou Nebulis IX). In the meaninglessly wars against the Nebulis Sovereignty, the Eight Great Apostles liberated Iska to do their bidding in exchange for his freedom if he manage to capture Princess Aliceliese Lou Nebulis IX. Despite of it, Iska's rank cannot be reinstated due to his actions for betrayal. When he saved Sisbell (the Astral Mage he liberated one year ago) the second time from the Witch Hunter Object, he decided to cooperate with Sisbell and protect her from the Eight Great Apostles and Elletear to intend to stop their villainous schemes to further his goal of ending this 100 years' hopelessly war after he learned from Sisbell of someone (who is a descendant from the Nebulis' royal family) attempt to bring the destruction of both nations from this would-be upcoming all-out war if the current queen, Mirabea Lou Nebulis VIII dies and later the Empire's Emperor's request of Sisbell to unveil the event, he sought out the truth of this 100 year war which was caused by the Eight Great Apostles (the main antagonists who had secretly betrayed and manipulated the Empire where the Astral Mages has been framed all along). He, along with the entire Imperial soldiers and the Saint Disciples, turned against the Apostles for the crime they committed against the previous Emperor which is already done indirectly after the Apostles were killed by Elletear Lou Nebulis IX for betraying her. After the Eight Great Apostles' demise for their sins, Iska and the Empire teamed up with Alice and the Sovereignty against the traitors. Elletear (former eldest princess of the Nebulis Sovereignty) and Joheim (ex-first seat of the Saint Disciples who is a spy).
Appearance[]
Iska is a young handsome man with a black hair and blue eyes (initially black at season 1). He wore a black outfit with a cape.
Personality[]
Iska is brave and honorable who has a immense kindness and a love for peace. He despised the meaninglessly wars against the Nebulis Sovereignty who are the "sworn enemies" to the Heavenly Empire. He is generous enough of freeing Sisbell Lou Nebulis IX, an Astral Mage little girl who is imprisoned by the Heavenly Empire due to her having a weak Astral Power though he has become a traitor to the Empire. His true intentions is to ended this meaninglessly war and bring peace. Unlike Empire's soldiers (who are manipulated by the Eight Great Apostles) other than his team, he is shown to be merciful when he doesn't kill any Astral Mages as he wounded and knocked them out to let them retreat or hides them to ensure nobody can find them due to his moral code which he never kills any Astral Mages.
Iska and his friends (including Sisbell) found out the truth behind this meaningless war which was covered up by the Eight Great Apostles.

Aliceliese Lou Nebulis IX[]
Iska and Alice after Elletear's betrayal.
Originally, Alice used to be Iska's "enemy and main rival" when he attempted to capture her. However, they now became allies when she realized Iska turned to be a traitor to the Heavenly Empire as she is willing to recruit him into the Nebulis though initially refused, he later accepted to cooperate against someone who attempt to destroy both nations but served as Sisbell's guard much of Alice's dismay and jealousy. She also have a romantic feeling for Iska as she will do anything to make him as lover when caused a love rivalry to her sister, Sisbell. However, when Sisbell revealed to the Heavenly Empire the truth and the Eight Great Apostles' true nature, it revealed that Iska and Alice were never truly enemies or rivals due to the Eight Great Apostles and Elletear's manipulations. After Elletear's betrayal and the Eight Great Apostles' deaths, Iska and Alice teamed up once more to fight against Alice's selfish and traitorous sister, Elletear in order to save the world together. A couple of days after Elletear's betrayal, Iska cooked food for Alice. When heading out to destroy the Great Star Disaster before it would turn all humans into Astral Mages, Alice asked Iska if he is still interested of her when everything will be over. Iska replied even if Alice lose her powers or her status, she will always be Alice to him.

One year ago, Iska is the one who freed Sisbell from her captivity of the Heavenly Empire because she was just a little girl with a weak Astral Power as a result of his betrayal towards the Empire. In such twisted fate, Iska reunited with Sisbell at Alsamira while he and his team were on vacation. He learned that Sisbell is Alice's younger sister. After her liberation by Iska, Sisbell thanked Iska for his kindness and intended to cooperate with him against a certain threat. Although initially declined, he eventually agreed to her request in exchange for skin patches for Mismis' Astral Crest after saving Sisbell again from a Witch Hunter Project. In Liesbaden, Sisbell flirted with Iska when she clinging him and later eats smoothie cream from his cheeks much of his dismay and Alice's jealousy. When Vichyssoise attempted to kill Sisbell, Iska saved the youngest princess again for the third time. When Kervina Sofita Hermos attempted to conduct an experimentation to Sisbell following the betrayal of Elletear, Iska yet again saved her and prevented this experimentation as a result of Kervina's death. While doesn't care what would happen to the Sovereignty or the queen, Iska does cares for Sisbell very much as he declare to Alice that he will never abandon her sister. After saving her for the fourth time, Sisbell shown her affections for Iska even further. When Luclezeus came to kill him and Sisbell, Iska once more saves her life by pushing her away from laserbeam fired by the Apostle. Sisbell helped Iska and his team to kill Luclezeus by creating an illusion to distract the Apostles as well the three of the 907th unit members used their guns to finished Luclezeus off. With the 100th years truth revealed, Sisbell has caused Iska and the Heavenly Empire to turn against the Eight Great Apostles for their sins of assaulting the previous emperor (but it was already done where the Apostles were killed by Elletear (Sisbell's sister) because she was also betrayed by them).
Much like her sister, Alice, Sisbell also developed a romantic feeling for Iska and she won't stop until Iska is hers.
Rin Vispose[]
Originally, Rin considered Iska as her enemy and a threat of Alice's ascend to become the next queen. She drugged and captured him to bring him to the Nebulis Sovereignty as a prisoner which Alice detested this decision. Until when he saving her life from Salinger the Transcendent (who attacked the previous queen), Rin let Iska go and shown a warm smile. In the Liesbaden, she is intend to help Iska of protecting Sisbell (who was falsely accused as a traitor). After Sisbell was captured by the Hydra Family, Rin intended to help Iska and his team to infiltrate the Elsa's Coffin, successfully rescued Sisbell and foiled Kervina's schemes, resulting of the death of the traitorous imperial scientist. When Rin was captured by Risya, Iska, Sisbell and the 907th unit headed towards the capital to rescue Rin under the persuasion of Emperor Yunmelngen for Sisbell's astral power.
Jhin Syulargun[]
Iska and Jhin are best friends since they were kids who were trained by the former head of the Saint Disciple, Crosswell Nes Lubigate. Iska and Jhin became brothers-in arms, when they become members of the 907th Unit. They have different proficiencies (Iska has talents for swords, while Jhin has talents for guns). Iska apologized to Jhin when he gotten involved with Sisbell (an Astral Mage who Iska freed one year ago). They were willing to protect their captain Mismis Klass after she has became an Astral Mage even if it means to made a deal with Sisbell of retrieving special skin stickers that will completely hide their captain's Astral Crest.
Kissing Zoa Nebulis IX[]
Kissing originally started out as Iska's enemy. During his rescue for Mismis, Iska defeated the Zoa Family's princess but failed to capture her when she was rescued by On Zoa Nebulis (Kissing's uncle). When Kissing went on a rampage due to her loneliness when her uncle On was placed in a comatose by the traitorous Elletear, Iska once again defeated Kissing during their rematch. After being defeated by the former Saint Disciple himself, Kissing accepted her defeat when knowing that Iska is very powerful. Kissing decided to serve under Iska in exchange to take down Elletear together. He agreed to Kissing's alignment. However, Iska is not planning to kill Elletear as Kissing wished.

Eight Great Apostles[]
The Eight Great Apostles are Iska's former superiors who now became his enemy faction. They freed Iska from his imprisonment for freeing a "witch" in his chance to pardon his actions if he capture the "Ice Calamity Witch". Unbeknownst to Iska, The Apostles manipulated him into doing their dirty works. However, after Iska destroyed the Witch Hunter Object from capturing Sisbell, The Apostles didn't expect Iska turned his back on them the second time. They decided to chase after Iska and kill him for his continually refusal to capture the so-called "Ice Calamity Witch".
However, after Kervina's death, one of the Eight Apostles, Luclezeus was sent out to kill Iska, the 907th Unit and Sisbell in attempt to prevent them from revealing the truth that the Apostles had covered up many years ago only to failed and Luclezeus was killed by the 907th Unit when using their guns of destroying the cage contains an Astral Spirit.
After Sisbell unveiled the truth of the 100 years incident and the Apostles' true natures and treasons in the request of Emperor Yunmelngen, Iska and the entire imperial army (including his team and the Saint Disciples) turned against the Eight Great Apostles for their betrayals ad crimes they committed against the previous Emperor of the Heavenly Emperor and framed the Astral Mages for their selfish ambitions to acquire the Astral Energy, much of the Apostles' fears. Unfortunately, the Apostles were already met their ends (indirectly) when Elletear has already killed them all for betrayal against her. The Great Apostle died in vains for their sins.
Elletear Lou Nebulis IX[]
Iska and Elletear
Elletear is obsessed of Iska and attempt to steal him from her sisters in order to make Sisbell vulnerable as well having him as a lover. She "welcomed" him and his team to the Lou Family's royal villa unknown to them, Elletear lured them (also Alice, Sisbell and Rin) into a trap in attempt to prevent them from interfering her goals of destroying the Empire and Sovereignty. In her bedroom despite luring him into a trap, Elletear is willing to flirt with him as well seduce him. She also asked Iska to sleep with her for the night much to her sisters' protests. When Sisbell revealed Elletear is a traitor, Iska has no trouble believing Sisbell when he realized Elletear lured them into a trap all along.
In Light Novel 12, Iska and the Empire teamed up with Alice and the Sovereignty to take down Elletear for her betrayal.
Though he learned that Elletear killed the Eight Great Apostles (due to them betraying her), Iska still won't kill her for her actions nor does he have any grudge on her at all due to his moral code. Despite what she has done, he wishes to defeat Elletear to save her for both Alice and Sisbell's sakes as well destroying the Great Star Disaster to revert her and all Astral Mages into regular humans.
Joheim[]
Joheim and Iska were once colleagues when they were part of the Heavenly Empire's Saint Disciples. It doesn't shown of their interactions much.
During the chaos in the Heavenly Empire, Iska learned of Joheim's treachery and have been a spy all along when he stopped Iska from assisting Alice against Elletear (who is Joheim's master). Their fight was interrupted when Joheim retreated with Elletear to the planet's core after Emperor Yunmelngen brought Crosswell, Nebulis and the others.

As the successor of the Black Steel, Iska has tremendous talents of swordsmanship when using Astral Swords. His swords can only be used by its owner even his mentor. He has also great agile and speed.
