Princess Ivy is one of the three tritagonists (alongside Diamant and Timerra) of Nintendo's 2023 tactical role-playing video game Fire Emblem Engage.
Ivy is the crown princess of the Kingdom of Knowledge Elusia, who worships the Fell Dragon Sombron and seeks to help him take over Elyos. However, Ivy herself actually worships the Divine Dragon for personal reasons and become one of their major allies in the fight against Sombron and his forces.
She was voiced by Yōko Hikasa in Japanese and Reba Buhr in English.
Biography[]
Ivy is the first princess of Elusia, a kingdom which values knowledge and intelligence. She was a brilliant student and a gifted mage, but, due to growing up in a decadent court (whose main evil mastermind was none other than her own mother who wanted to get rid of her husband's mistresses), she became paranoid and unhappy in general. She also developed a dislike for the Fell Dragon which her country worshipped due to most of the corrupted aristocrats of her land worshipping him and decided to worship instead his rival, the Divine Dragon.
Ivy had several half siblings but all of them - sans her sister Hortensia (whose mother was a former rival and friend of Ivy's own mother) - were banished by the queen from Elusia's royal court.
Prior to the events of the game, Sombron woke up from his 1000 years long slumber and brainwashed Hyacinth, Elusia's king and Ivy's father. He tasked the now evil king to search for emblem rings (which he needed in order to access to the multiverse) and a monarch, whom Sombron would consume during a ritual which would allow him to temporarily regain his full strength. Hyacinth tasked Ivy to attack the castle of Brodia a rival country in order to claim its ring.
During the story proper, Ivy first appears in Chapter 8, where she starts her assault on Brodia Palace. However, the Divine Dragon Alear is already aware of her attack (due to Hortensia accidentally revealing them that Ivy was targeting the castle during the previous chapter) and awaits her at the palace, alongside the two princes of Brodia. Ivy agrees to give them back the emblem ring which her father gave her if Alear defeats her, which they do. Beaten, Ivy releases the emblem of the Sage Lord Leif and withdraws alongside her retainers Zelkov and Kagetsu.
In the next chapter, Hyacinth successfully tricks the king of Brodia Morion into facing him on the battlefield and captures him so he could use him as the sacrifice for the ritual. Ivy is then charged to hold back Alear's faction and prevent them from reaching Hyacinth during a suicide mission. However, Alear spares her after defeating her once more and lets Ivy go. Ivy agrees to leave , but tells Alear and Morion's eldest son Diamant about the ritual that her father plans to perform before leaving, as a token of her gratitude towards Alear for sparing. She also decides to defect from Elusia and becomes neutral in the process.
After Morion was sacrificed and turned into a corrupted (a zombie serving the Fell Dragon), and Hyacinth was stopped by Alear and betrayed by Sombron, Sombron's daughter and commander Veyle steals the six rings collected by Alear and their allies and their Dragon Time Crystal. She forces them to flee, but Ivy saves them and gives Alear two emblem rings. She also reveals that she retrieved the Dragon Time Crystal (stolen from Veyle by Zelkov) and gives it back to Alear. Alear and their group are forced to flee Elusia at the end of the ensuing battle and Ivy permanently joins their crew, in spite of Morion's second son Alcryst disapproval. Zelkov and Kagetsu follow her and join Alear's army too.
She remains with them for the rest of the game and helps them take back the port and royal palace of Elusia from Sombron's forces near the end of the game. After helping Alear and their allies defeat Sombron once and for all, Ivy goes back to Elusia and succeeds her father as the country's new ruler. She establishes a peaceful relationship with Brodia, remains ally with Alear and the other monarchs of Elyos and successfully rebuilds her country.
