Template:Anti-Hero InfoboxJ. Jonah Jameson is a character in the Spider-Man franchise. Sometimes he appears as sort of a villain and anti-hero, being obsessed with proving to the world that Spider-Man is a threat that must be handed over to the authorities at any cost as well as revealing his true identity to the public. However, as the years progressed, he was depicted in the comics as one who actually admires Spider-Man and even aids him.
Jameson is the chief editor and publisher of the Daily Bugle newspaper, who sees Spider-Man as a huge threat. Although in films such as Spider-Man 2, he admires Spider-Man and admits that he is really a hero, he is too arrogant to say so. He is constantly obsessed with bringing Spidey down. He attacks super heroes in masks because he thinks they're suspicious. However, he goes too far by committing libel and creating sensationalism in his newspaper stories to try to influence the public's perception of Spider-Man. He also wrongly blames Spidey for many crimes that are actually committed by Spidey's archenemies, then does not give him credit when Spidey defeats his enemies and brings them to justice.
He dislikes Spider-Man, though he had an affection of Peter Parker over the years.
In the live-action Sam Raimi Spider-Man film trilogy, he was portrayed by actor JK Simmons. Simmons had a big interest to reprise the role in the two Amazing Spider-Man films but refused.
Reasons for anger
His source of anger differs across the continuities. During the Silver age, he had a step-father who was a war veteran and a "hero" to the outside world. However, he abused his wife and kid. Due to this, Jameson decided that "Even the real heroes can't keep it up all the time", which fueled his cynicism toward Spider-Man. In the 1994 cartoon, his wife was murdered by a gun-toting mask-wearer and his hatred of Spider-Man stemmed from the fact he wore a mask.
Strength
In high school, the three biggest jocks in his high school tried to bully him, but he fought all of them and beat them. Despite the fact that he once suffered a heart attack, he can still fight with fairly good strength and speed. However, he is better in intelligence.
