Jack Kahuna Laguna, known also simply as JKL, is a massive orange-fish, legend of surf, living in an isolated and pacified island and the overarching protagonist of the SpongeBob SquarePants special SpongeBob SquarePants vs. the Big One.
He was voiced by Johnny Depp, who also played Rango from Rango and Captain Jack Sparrow from The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
Appearance[]
JKL is a shiny, all-muscled humanoid orange fish with abs, mustache, and blonde hair and whiskers. She's only wearing a necklace with just a pink blue dolphin on it and a light purple Hawaiian swimsuit.
Personality[]
JKL is a very calm and relaxed guy. He never raises his voice and seems to be in tune with nature and the waves. As a teacher he proves himself polite and fair with only the teaching "Just keep breathing", something he knows how to do. He also proves to be very heroic in saving his students and Mr. Krab and even sacrificing himself for them to allow them to return home.
Role[]
After SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidward are shipwrecked on a remote island with some rough guys who have tried in vain to teach them to serfare, since it's the only way to get back to Bikini Botton, they are told to look for Jack Kahuna Laguna, known also as JKL for short, a surfing legend, brilliant teacher. Arriving at his cabin, they are struck by his charm, with Squidward fainting. For a moment JKL doesn't say anything when they ask them for help, then he starts surfing the waves doing a tearful show for 2 and a half hours teaching them their first lesson, then as evening falls he lights the fire and plays the bongo saying "Just keep breathing" . SpongeBob and Patrick are impressed by this, but Squidward can't see anything in this, so SpongeBob talks to JKL and tells them to watch the fire all night so that "the secrets will be revealed." SpongeBob and Patrick do it, but Squidward always gets stuck and takes a nap. The next day, a storm breaks out, and JKL runs to a temple, with the three following him and he reveals that every thousand years the planets align to create the largest wave in the world, called "The Big One". and that they must take it or they will be stuck there forever and one of them will probably get eaten by it. JKL appears again when SpongeBob, Patrick and Squidward made it onto the Big One, JKL saves Mr. Krabs was about to drown and when the crate falls, JKL throws himself into Big One's mouth, much to SpongeBob's horror, but he reassures him that he was born to do this, saying goodbye one last time. SpongeBob plays the bongo in honor of him always remembering "Just keep breathing". At the end of the special, JKL reappears alive and well on Bikini Botton Beach, much to everyone's delight, especially SpongeBob. JKL returns the crate to Mr. Krab and joins the party.
