In addition to having a genius way of fixing his problems on his farm, Jack took soothing pleasure in hearing or reading stories of wizards, conjurers, giants, and fairies, and used to listen eagerly while his father talked of the great deeds of the brave knights of King Arthur’s Round Table.
Of course their was another reason why Jack and his father had to do their best to keep their farm afloat because high up in the mountains right next to their village, there lived a horrible and ill-tempered Giant named Cormoran, who would often come down from his home and take whatever he pleases from his and all other neighboring villages. Regardless, Jack still kept his smart mind and made sure that no one could ever get the better of him while still dreaming of things to come for the future of himself and his country, unaware that one day, he will get the chance to do so and become one of the greatest heroes his country could ever dream imagine.

On one day that at first started off as a simple day for him, Jack and his father found themselves attending a town meeting that is talking about the current Giant situation, when Jack asked to what will be done, he was answered with the reward of all the gold Cormoran stole. Hearing this, Jack was given a brand new drive inside him and boldly resolved to destroy him, and despite advices to not do it, Jack didn't heed any of them and went up high into the mountain to the cave where the giant lived to take him down.
Of course before he headed up the mountain, Jack took with him a horn, a shovel, pickaxe, and a dark lantern, and early in a long winter’s evening he marched to the mountain and right to the cave where the Giant lived. When he arrived at the cave's entrance he fell to work at once, and before morning he had dug a pit twenty-two feet deep, and almost as many broad. He covered it over with sticks and straw, and strewed some of the earth over them, to make it look just like solid ground.
When the morning sun rose he then put his horn to his mouth, and blew such a loud and long tantivy, that the giant awoke and came towards Jack and threatened to kill him for waking up. He had scarcely spoken these words, when he came advancing one step farther, but being a giant his weight immediately proved to much for the trap and he tumbled headlong into the pit, and his fall shook the very mountain.
After Jack insults Cormoran for a bit which caused him to try and rise up from his trap, Jack the opportunity to strike him at a blow on the crown of the head with his pickaxe, which killed him at once, before covering up the trap with dirt & returning all the wealth the brute stole. With the threat of Cormoran gone for goodJack then made haste back to rejoice his friends with the news of the giant’s death, and when the justices of the town heard of this valiant action, they sent for Jack, and declared that he should always be called "Jack the Giant Killer", being gifted a special belt & sword for this deed as well.
