Jacob Maurer is a minor character in the manga series Monster. After Kenzo Tenma comes to him for help regarding information related to Johan Liebert and his initial adoptive family, he reluctantly helps him find information related to the case and even helps track down Nina Fortner and her family.
He is voiced by Yosuke Akimoto (who has voiced Dr. Neo Cortex in the Japanese dub of Crash Boom Bang!) in the original Japanese anime, and Kyle Herbert (who has voiced Ryu in the English version of Street Fighter) in the English dub.
Personality[]
Jacob Maurer initially starts off as being presented as rude, cynical, uncaring, a bad lover, and someone who focuses more on himself than others. As he begins to know Kenzo however, he begins to open up more and sympathize with him and his struggles of research, even if he doesn't believe him. He also comes to subtly admit to Tenma that he misses his wife and daughter, and plans on reuniting with them before his unfortunate fate.
At first, it seems that the reason why Jacob Maurer doesn't believe Kenzo's story is due to simply thinking that he's crazy. It's soon revealed however, that the true reason why he doesn't believe in the story was because he genuinely believes that a ten year old like Kenzo wouldn't be able to commit the atrocious murders that Johan enacted, as he had seen them himself and states that they could only be committed by a "monster". Showing his genuine care for other people and distaste for evil.
